Dog hair is driving me crazy--need electric broom recommendations

Something like this.

We have mostly hardwood or tile floors and need something light and portable for everyday use. Lugging the large vac up and down the stairs isn't working.
Budget is +- $100.
Thanks.

That looks as good as anything in that price range.
I have three Huskies, so my house is like a snow globe from all the fur, especially when they're molting. Only thing I found that could compete was a Dyson Animal; designed for pet hair removal. Expensive, but also well worth it.

Thanks. I checked out the Dyson; definitely out of my price range. Looks like it is for carpet as well, which won't really be an issue.

I have almost all hardwood floors as well and I've pretty much given up all hope. My dog just sheds like crazy. The only thing that helps (a little) is to brush her like 2x a day every day. And that basically just barely cuts it down. I vacuum with a normal vacuum but also at least once or twice daily.
I honestly did not think that a medium sized dog can hold so much hair...

DUDE! You have 3 huskies all living IN THE HOUSE??? That must be some vacuum cleaner....

I have one Husky living in my house and I used to have German Shepherds, I called 'em German Shedders until I got my Husky.

He's a great dog but no 5 dogs combined of any other breed shed like a Husky....

(googleing Dyson Animal....)

I use a Furminator a couple of times a week.
DeShedding Tools - FURminator® Official Site

It gets rid of a lot, but also seems to loosen more up.

Yep, three of them goofballs living in the house. Most of the time, anyway. They only like to stay outside in the winter.
I have a Dyson DC14 Animal. I bought it about 5-6 years ago. Here's a link to one at overstock.com for about half what I paid for it new. There's a newer version out now.
Vacuum cleaners aren't exciting in any way, shape, or form. But if you've got a pet hair problem, this is really the only way to go.

Stay away from the Bissell "Pet Hair Eraser" series. They are absolute junk. Before the divorce, there were two dogs & 5 cats in the house. Was all excited when we got the Pet Hair Eraser, but it quickly began to fall apart. It's garbage.

Ended up removing all the carpets and now only have hardwoods. Now there's just one dog and two cats, but the dog is a Shepherd/Chow mix and she is shedding like nuts right now. I can sweep the house, and the next days there will be fur "tumbleweeds" in the corners of rooms.

Hey, let us know what you end up with. I'm really curious how something like your link stacks up against good old fashioned sweeping.

Oh, and if you don't already have one, pick up a "Shedding Blade" from a pet store. Those things are awesome for shedding dogs. My dog actually enjoys being brushed. I think it must feel good to have that old fur pulled out when she's shedding.

We also have three Huskies. (Well, two purebred Huskies and one mixed with Lab). We have an Oreck XL which works well, but we go through a lot of bags.

I usually have no less than 6 large dogs in my home at a time, most of them have medium to long coats, let's say my house most of the time is a hairy mess even if I vacuum regularly. Here are my experiences:

1. if you want a vacuum it needs to have actual sucking power, small portable or rechargeable ones are a waste of money. Dyson is apparently awesome, but I don't have personal experiences with it so I can't verify it. I use Bissell lift off something for pets, and it has been holding decently for over a year now. I usually suck up the hair bunnies with the attachment. I also like that it doesn't use bags, when it fills up I just dump the contents of container to the trash.
2. If you have small area that needs cleaning get a Sweepa rubber mop or something like it, cheap and it will do the same job as a vacuum with pet hair, especially on tile floors.
3. different hair/fur types require different brushes to remove them: if you have a dog with shorter hair e.g. hounds or a lab mix Furminator is great; for dogs with a bit longer, but thick, hair, e.g. German Shepards, the Shedding Blade works great; if the dog has a medium to a long coat (e.g. Golden Retrievers or Great Pyreenees) I use this: Grooming Rake; for the rest I use just a regular dog brush.
All of that does not apply to Husky hair because they have totally different type of coat and I don't have first hand experience with them.

My two mutts are Samoyed/German Shepard mixes, both shed like crazy, the larger male has a "Samoyed-ish" coat - i.e. longer fur, and requires a LOT of brushing to keep it neat/clean. I keep a 5 gallon wet/dry vac handy, use the rake that 8_finger linked to for him, and use the wet/dry vac to keep the fur that comes off under control WHILE brushing (rake a good bit of loose fur off, keep the hose by my leg and "empty" the brush into it). When I finish brushing them, I then use the wet/dry vac to pick up all the fur bunnies. I also do in-between brushing cleanup with it.

Thinking seriously about the Dyson Animal and this attachment as the next step...

I started vacuuming the dog and cats in addition to the house. It's not perfect, but it helps immensely. Brush critter with the shedding blade. Vacuum critter thoroughly to get rid of loose hairs the blade didn't. Then clean house. I have carpet, tile and hardwood on my floors.

Listen to an old man !

I had 2 labs, now I have one, but I burned up two 69.00 vacuum cleaners, one Bissell, one "bagless" Eurika, with a heppa filter that cost 13.00 to replace EVERY WEEK. Then I found :The "Dyson". Any Dyson will work : cleans a/c filters/ vents, baseboards, cobbwebs, ceiling fans, wooden floor dust, dupont stainmaster carpet, and anything else. I have 2, one new, one off of ebay at half price. BUY A DYSON! I also had to buy a Maytag commercial 4 gallon washer to wash sheets & comforters every two days.

For less than $100 you could have the dog shaved.

Dude, Thanks, I found a Dyson DC25 Animal at Home Depot on sale and snagged it. Great vacuum!

It wouldn't matter how much hair he sheds, one of the best dogs I've ever had. Not the smartest, but most willing to please.

Swiffer and a Bona floor mop work wonders on our hardwood/cork/tile floors. We have a two story house, so we keep one or the other on each floor so they are handy.

We tried the Dyson out, and it works fine, just not $275 fine. So for $40, I got this one instead: Bissell Cleanview Deluxe Corded Handheld Vacuum, 47R51. So far, it works awesome.
