I'm looking for both.
I'd done a brief search in the titles section, but, most results were recommendations from a couple years ago.
Any current recommendations? |

Thanks for responding.
Do they allow you to maintain your own site, do your own updates?
Do they allow / have FTP?
Do you or they own your domain name? I've been warned to watch out for Hosts that make it difficult for you to walk away WITH your name.
p.s. if you don't know the answers, no prob, I'll contact them myself. |

If you buy the hosting, it is all under your control, I'm not sure about FTP, I usually just post the files and give my friends the URL and they can download them. If you buy just the domain, they have free limited hosting, I think with ads, but it is so cheap for their base level hosting I don't even bother with the freebie. I think 10G server space and plenty of bandwidth, unless you get millions of hits a month. And you get a bunch of e-mailboxes with it.
I suggest buying the privacy option with the domain name, it is cheap enough. If you don't, your contact information will be available to anybody. The first time I didn't do that, and got tons of junk mail from other hosting services asking me to switch.
For me the domain name, privacy and minimum hosting package was I think $80 or so a year.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions, a friend of mine has a lot of sites through them and knows a bit more than me! |

Good Luck,

I also use GoDaddy for some of my sites, because a few years ago they were the best game in town and I haven't felt like switching away, but I prefer Dreamhost and use them for my newer sites. |

I use Total Choice Hosting for the web host provider. They have plans that start at $4 per month.
I used to have a painfully slow web hosting service until one day when I downloaded a big video and it was really fast. I decided to figure out who their web hosting service was so I could use it, too. It was Total Choice. I've been using that ever since for several different sites (band, soccer club, personal, etc.). |
