How can we be sure it's fake?

Here's a bit of debate at snopes:

It's fake. If the pistol were real, then you'd probably see more recoil, not to mention the bullets either exiting the other side, or at the very least denting or having paint chips flying off.
Not to mention the guy inside flipping out and trying to get out of a death trap. You'd see the can bumping and banging all over.

We don't know if the rounds were hollow point, fully jacketed or other. If FJ, we might not see exits [if they occurred] because of the camera shot. The recoil point may not wash either, as it didn't look unnatural at all.

The mail box is most likely heavy and bolted down. If the kid was shot, it might'a been over after the first shot, so I doubt the "bumping and banging" idea.

There's a chance it's real.

So the shooter would be having to use a pistol with light recoil, the rounds would have to have been something that would have stayed in the victim without exiting or ricocheting, the victim would not be able to budge the mailbox at all nor raise the lid, nor stick his hand out, nor would there be any blood splattering, someone is obviously filming yet makes no effort to stop it, and all this is presented along with silly music gag-style.. sure there's a chance that it's real but....it aint
blank gun, no one in mailbox and it's a joke gets my vote.

The person filming may have been shocked and then scared ----less, or perhaps the camera was hidden and unmanned. The music could have been added by anyone that can edit a vid. How are you going to see blood spattering? Depending on the wound[s], there may not have been much splattering at all anyway. "Raise the lid"? When one gets shot 2x in one second, followed by another two shots in another two seconds, things often don't turn out like in the movies. Often people shut down immediately when shot, and if that didn't happen, the kid may have frozen. We don't know there wasn't ricocheting, and the recoil argument really isn't worth pursuing.

I'm not saying it's real, but I'm not saying it's fake either. Nolo contendere

OK, so when one gets shot, they can either shut down immediately or just as easily as go absolutely beserk (unlike in the movies where they get shot and die cleanly and instantly), so we'll go with the first one - the first shot was an immediate kill. That, plus the guy was locked in a mailbox being covered by an hidden, unmanned camera with his 2 cohorts pictured in the very beginning having run off to get vodka and borshcht.
Aaaand, the recoil IMO is worth considering - a blank gun has very little recoil, just like this one.

Ah screw it, what we'll just have to do is run some ballistic tests to verify. We'll need two TB volunteers, any takers??

In the movies people go on and on and on and on .... whereas one shot will shut down most people, especially a 150 lb kid.

Don't forget that 9mm is very popular in Europe

I think most don't want to believe it's real, because it's so horrible if true. That and snuff films are a clear violation of the TB TOS.

If it is true, it must have been a big story in Europe, so perhaps some TBers over there can shed some light?

I'm not concerned about the Russians - we've got the good people of Alaska keeping an eye on them from their back porch.

But then a 9mm would have a lot more recoil then what's shown. Watch his arm - nothing. Even if he was using a proper stance, you would still see the "jerk" of the recoil on his arm. He's just leisurely firing away in the vid like it's a cap gun.
I would say that you're right about it being a big story in Europe if it were real given the stance on gun ownership and such there.
