in japanese, the english phrase "don't touch my mustache" is very close to the japanese phrase that means "you're welcome". ("doo itasimasite")
do any of our bi-lingual tb'ers know of any other phrases like that, either where a phrase in a foreign language sounds similar to something funny in english, or vice versa (a phrase in english that sounds like something funny in a foreign language)?

p.s. kind of like ' bite the wax tadpole', still it makes for a great story... Quote:

One that come to mind right now, is female and male.
In french we used these word (femelle and male) only for animals.
It sounded weird for me at the begining, I'm used to it now.
Also the four letter F word, in french is an animal. Spelled Phoque.

As a matter of a fact, every major world-wide manufacturer spends quite a bit of time nowadays to get the best selling name to their products to suit every market area. Sometimes it seems that drawing the names out of a hat would work better .

The French word for poison is "poison" (pronounced "pwah-zon")
When eating at a French restaurant, don't try to impress your girlfriend by ordering in French if you aren't good at it. Pronouncing the word for "fish" wrong will get you a snooty look from the waiter.
