I used to work for Versign/Network Solutions in Herndon years ago. |

for many years. I ditched Network Solutions a long time ago because they sucked so hard.
Let's also not forget the Verisign fiasco where they redirected every domain typo to their own search page.

I don't see how that constitutes "immediately registered". You have to go through several steps to actually register the domain. |

Network Solutions essentially puts a "4-day hold" on the domain name that is being searched for. They don't actually spend any money to formally register it, and they don't technically "own" it. The hold is released after 4 days if you haven't purchased it (from them). Still, it's a bad practice, and hopefully they'll stop it.
I've bought a few domains recently thru Yahoo, it's simple and cheap.

I stole a candy bar from a store when I was 7. So I guess that's a start. |
