I was humping around some cabs yesterday, and I got to thinking...
I can never buy a nice 2-door coupe.
As long as I'm a bass player, and as long as I'm addicted to 15"s and SVTs, I'll always have to drive a hatchback or wagon or truck...
Does this bug anyone else? Has anyone else quashed their love of 2-doors so they can keep their big ol' cabs? |

I drive a Saturn Ion and in it I fit 2 15" PA speakers (backseat) PA head, pedalboard, synth, 2 backpacks, 2 speaker stands, 2 mic stands, keyboard stand, and anywhere from 1 to 3 basses (all in the trunk). I plan on getting 2 12" monitors for the PA and can fit them in my backseat. Currently, I also have room for my fiancee and another rider, though with the acquisition of a pair of monitors I will lose the room for another rider.

In the backseat I put the 112combo with the 210 extension cab, my bass goes on the floor my backseat and I get my bag with cables/pedals/whatnot in the trunk. It is definitely a tight fit, but it works for me.
It's also a 1996 Dodge Avenger, so even though it is a coupe, the car is also a damn boat it's so long.
In the future I would love to get a hatchback or something similar though.. I've been fascinated by them for years. |

Plenty of power, very agile handling. If I had tons of money, I'd buy a true sports coupe and a SUV to haul bass gear, but the A3 is a compromise I'm quite happy with. |

If I had a nice 4 door, I'd feel bad about hauling stuff in the back seat... i'd wind up ruing the upholstery trying to drag a big fat cab back there. I'd need cloth seats, etc... so I could never get a "nice" interior. Quote:

So yeah... I could get a really, really nice 5-door... (which I hope to do one day), but a 5-door will never be an MR-2 or S2000...
It's a tradeoff. Big amps, or snappy little cars.
I guess I could always get a trailer hitch put on a Porsche Boxster. |

Im more likely to dent a rear panel than I am to ruin my seats. Currently I have cloth upholstery, but my last car had leather interior and I used to haul a 410 cab back there.
Also, I don't tend to buy 'nice cars'. I buy affordable vehicles (usually in the $6-8K range, used) that serve the purpose of transportation. Your vehicle is not a status symbol, its a means of getting you (and your gear) from point A to point B.

WRX, Audi(t)s, etc...there are options out there that work for gigging as well as personal yay time. Absolutely love the hatch style setup now, comes in very handy. Don't even have to put the seats down to fit my ported 4x10.
There are also plenty of sedans out there that can crank. G35 sedan's a popular drift car, pretty much a 4 door 350z. |

I like the Volvos and the VW wagons too. If you're set on a 2 door, you're kinda really limited on options for your gear.
