I just found this surfing the web. Its pretty insane. With all the talk of 2012 and all of the major disasters, wars, technological advancements, globalization how can we not start taking this stuff serious? Nuclear weapons, diseases, etc.

Seriously... someone will always come up with a doomsday scenario.. y2k, 2012, etc. Hell the flagellents were walking around Europe beating the hell out of themselves as the year 1000 approached. Screaming "the sky is falling" always gets more attention than just stating the known facts.
Besides, the aliens will intervene and save us. |

They will be the first exposed to poisonous, cancer causing chemical gases. They will be the ones that initially experience the full fury of a methane bubble exploding from the ruptured seabed.
| If the Gulf explodes, I'm thinking cancer will be the least of our problems.

Methane freezes at -182.5 °C, 91 K, -297 °F.

Methane freezes at -182.5 °C, 91 K, -297 °F. | IIRC, the physical state doesn't rely only on temperature, but also on pressure. The high pressure must have something to do with the methane's solid state.

I think it would have to be pretty astronomically high to make methane a solid at the sort of temperatures you'd find in that region, though. I'l see if I can find a phase diagram.
Methane, btw, isn't an element.
