Drawing/Colouring Assignments

Sign in to disble this ad
Well I just heard someone I know mention they have an assignment to do that involves drawing. The subject is English.

I couldn't draw to save my life, so maybe that's why I look at it this way, but...

Do you think it's acceptable to have to do drawing/colouring assignments outside of art class? If you're taking art, it's perfectly fine obviously...lol
But I mean, if you're in English class, why should that involve drawing? Why is it fair that students are being marked on their drawing abilities in a class that is unrelated? To me it doesn't make any sense. In high school at least, back in grade school I can understand (to a certain level, anyway...)
Any opinions?

In my experience, those assignments are usually graded on how well you convey the thesis/focus/theme of the assignment, and not on how good of an artist you are. It's a way of testing whether or not you can understand the concepts outside of their usual presentation, ie written language...

Well yes, mostly. In that sense I understand. However, someone who pulls off a beautiful drawing vs. someone who's drawing is less than terrific...assume they convery the theme equally well.
Who receives the better mark? I've seen this vary.

In theory, it shouldn't vary. My experiences with art, inside and out of art classes, seem to indicate the understanding and effort are what really count. I took an art class my second year of university and I absolutely tanked on all of the draws from a technical perspective, but still got an A- in the class.

This subject reminds me of this comic that was on Digg a while ago. There is some language and a graphic depiction of a violent act. Kids should stay away.

I've had a lot of those assignments and I am not exactly skilled with pencils. It usually was based on the material, which is about as fair as it gets. It's a fun way of thinking about certain things. I would have liked to have more assignments like that, to be honest.

Thanks for that lol

Alright well maybe I'm just looking into this too much. It's been awhile since my last assignment...

I am a terrible artist, but I like to draw. It calms me. It is like bass though, practice = get better but never as good as wooten, I mean VanGo.

Aka you have more fun the more you practice.
