Drummers Complaint

My girlfriend is an aspiring drummer of almost two years now and treated herself to a new kit a few weeks ago, as we were setting it up she made a comment about moving all that stuff around.

I told her the word on the Bass forum is, "Try to find the drummer with the smallest kit because you'll get stuck helping haul all that stuff too."

She said a common complaint on the drum forum is, "No one will help you."

I haven't gigged in a long time, but I think this is funny because I distinctly remember most of us helping the drummer that was usually preoccupied with starting to put together their kit after carrying a few pieces, but for the most part everybody helped each other and I'm sure the drummer helped with my 2x15 cab plenty of times.

Of coarse the singer was always late and the guitars were always the first ones plugged in, going reedle deedle dee for what seemed like forever.......

I ALWAYS get my drummer situated before making noise. I also help him/her schlep out afterward, before moving my own sh- that's how I spread the love

I help the drummer, the drummer helps me, and it's all a fair trade.

Bass player gets drums, drummer and guitar player gets hardware bag and stands, drummer get cymbols. Everyone places cymbols and high hat on stands while drummer arranges drums. Then guitar and bass go set up your gear, tune, go have a beer

In my band we all load and unload together. Just quicker and easier that way. I never understood bands not helping each other. Everyone has the same primary goal, right?

I usually say no to help, as I want to make sure my equipment doesn't get messed up. I get the same response most of the time when I offer my help as well.

If you handle payout, make it known anyone not present for load out, setup, or strike will be docked 25%. Let her show up late one or two more times. Remind her of the new policy but don't dock yet. If she continues, the third time it happens, dock her and don't blink. She was aware of what was coming.

I am a gigging drummer and bass player. You can help me
With my bass cabs but don't touch my drums. I'll
Take care of them. That's my policy. Too many messed up stands
And lost parts in the past. Some things you tighten back
up... Some you don't... Only tha drummer
knows.....

Our drummer is quick as a bunny with set up and tear down. By the time I roll up my cables and break down my stuff he's packed up and out the door helping roll up PA cables. And he brings his own drum riser!

My Drummers always seem to be the hardest workers in the band. Carrying Most of the Pa Equipment, Gibralter cage, Mackie's with Stands etc...The least I can do is help them set up.

Hmm, my rig takes 3 minutes tops to get cookin, the drummer takes a good 10-15 before final setup..of course I'm gonna help. Every band I have been in it's been the same...that crap ain't light. He helps me load in my Big Dumb Box (tm) of course I can load in a kick drum or some hardware.

Hauling drums and PA are regular parts of a guitarist or bassist life.
The singer MUST participate too, even if it implies quicking his/her ass.
I once was in a band in which the singer didn't help others moving their gear and stayed at the bar. At the next show we didn't even touch the PA and we let him carry and install it by himself. It cured the issue.

Does she book the gigs or involved with the administration process?

If not, just tell her the gig starts at 7:30
