Man, if my emphasis is on the point at hand.
Dude, if my emphasis is on the specific recipient of whatever message I'm conveying, whether positive or negative.
Bro, never. But I'm middle-aged white. And Californian.

Just a colloquial thing.

Bro sounds too frat boy.

I don't really call people man, but may use it like "maaaaaaaaaaan, that sucks" as a substitute for the F bomb when I'm not in an F bomb friendly area.

I think I am obligated to use Dude since I'm Californian. It is a really versatile word. I even call my Grandpa dude.

Examples:
Friend: "Hey, I won the lottery!"
Me: "DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!"

Friend: "Hey, I just hooked up with your girlfriend"
Me: "Dude!"

Friend: "The aliens have landed and they're giving out candy!"
Me: "Dude?!"

Friend: "Dude"
Me: "Duuude" w/ understanding nod

I used to say "dude" when I was younger, especially being a Californian. I've mostly stopped using that though, except as a negative-toned thing like "dude, seriously, put a sock in it".

I've started saying "bro" in rare occasions where I get a "bro-using vibe" from the person I'm addressing.

I say "man" all the time, several times a day, even when addressing women. The one hangup I have about that is some radio comic (a white guy) who admitted that when he's around black people he says "man" in every sentence, overcompensating to avoid seeming racist or uncool. I think about that guy when I catch myself doing anything remotely similar.

Most of the time, it's "man" for me. Very occasionally I use "brother" but never "bro".

I would never really use any of them. Where is the carrots option?

I might use dude in an ironic way or as a joke... but we are talking once or twice a year.

I don't think I have ever heard somebody say "Bro" in real life....

Usually Chief, when I don't know the persons name yet.
Brah, if we are close friends.
Dude, bro, and/or man for everything else.

"Man" when I'm talking to someone that I don't know but I'm being friendly.
Ex. (meeting a fan after a show) "Hey man, thanks for coming out." Sometimes, I accidentally use it with women. Oops.

"Bro" when talking to my friends but only sometimes. It just slips out. But mostly, it's used when me and my freinds are goofing off.
Ex. "Bro, really? Really bro? Really? Bro?" (yea, we get pretty silly sometimes)"

"Dude" is the most common amongst my friends, including girls.
Ex. "What's up dude? Are we rehearsing today?" or "Dude!! Lets go to Chic-Fil-A!"

Dawg, Bruss, Bruvv, Brussle with 'muh' in front of any of these.
They're all used in a 'taking the piss' kind of way.

ALL OF THE ABOVE for everyday situations!

I honestly don't see how anyone doesn't say man unconsciously.
