DUI --- Indiana Style Only a person in Indiana could think of this. From the country where drunk driving is considered a sport, comes this true story. Recently a routine police patrol was parked outside a bar in Jasper, Indiana. After last call, the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so apparently intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity, in which he tried his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car and fall into it. He sat there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off--it was a fine, dry summer night--,flicked the blinkers on and off a couple of times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights. He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little, and then remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patrons' vehicles left. At last, when his was the only car left in the parking lot, he pulled out and drove slowly down the road. The police officer, having waited patiently all this time, now started up his patrol car, put on the flashing lights, and promptly pulled the man over and administered a breathalyzer test. To his amazement, the breathalyzer indicated no evidence that the man had consumed any alcohol at all! Dumbfounded, the officer said, "I'll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken." "I doubt it," said the truly proud Hoosier. "Tonight I'm the designated decoy."

So did that guy technically do anything illegal? Is aiding a DUI a crime?

If this is a true story, mad props to this guy. That's actually a really good idea. Though I wouldn't admit what I was doing, but I would have a smile on my face.

If it is a joke, I wonder if it would work?

IF DUI laws weren't just a racket to make money, and were actually meant for people's safety, I might be against the idea. Otherwise I give a thumbs up.

What makes you say that?

if they were just a racket to make money they wouldn't take away peoples license. trust me driving drunk is a public hazard.

i will concede that the police, the towing company, the impound lot, AA, the courthouse, and possibly an attorney or a few will make money off the drunkard that got caught; but id prefer less people driving while intoxicated.

Lol ok. Be sure to tell the families of the people killed by drunk drivers that the laws are just a racket.

You don't think the laws are just a racket to generate revenue? Seriously?

I'd rather be behind an adult with a BAC of .08 than some frail old broken sober person who drives like an a-hole. What about the families of those who have died from accidents that are caused by bad sober drivers?

So the crux of your argument is you think DUI laws are a sham because there are bad sober drivers out there. Am I understanding you clearly?

Please explain how they are a racket? I dont understand...

Driving under the influence is really dangerous. Sure, maybe someone at a .08 can drive alright enough (and that is the max as far as legal limit goes). But to see someone swerving across lanes, or passing out as theyre driving on the freeway? That just aint safe.

Yeah I still don't have a working vehicle due to a drunk driver hitting my car last year. Don't drive after drinking, period.

No, I think they are a sham because they keep lowering the BAC, and then the Federal Government blackmails the state into doing the same, or else they are denied highway funds.

A lot of people don't want to hear this, but a lot more people drive "legally drunk" than you think. It's the 10% who can't handle their booze that make the headlines and ruin it for everyone else.

.08 is barley buzzed, much less "drunk". Maybe to an 80lb cheerleader that's drunk, but not most adults.

You're operating a half ton mass of steel, gasoline, and rubber, travelling at speeds in excess of 60 mph if you're on the high way, with the potential to kill yourself and anyone/thing else you run into.

I do not for one minute think that DUI laws are a sham. I don't deny they're good money makers, but just for comparison, you're not allowed to WORK drunk in about 99% of business situations, why should you be allowed to control a vehicle if you are?
