Does anyone have a DVD ripping software they can recommend? I am not into pirating stuff, just to rip my legal DVD's to my pc and maybe Zune.

Maximum PC magazine awarded it's "Softy" lifetime achievement award to AnyDVD! ripping software. It can circumvent DRM but I think it's useful for those of us who don't pirate stuff just to rip protected movies that you have legally purchased to be able to convert them to formats that will play on any kind of device that you want.

Even if it's your own DVD that is still illegal

You can use dvdshrink that usually work well.

In the US...

Grey area here in UK.

The Government have said that it is in principle OK to transcode media that you own for personal use on different equipment (specifically CD's, but hard to see how to avoid the principle being expanded), thought the law changes to specifically codify this haven' t gone through yet.

It is still being upheld under the fair usage laws here. It is not illegal to rip a DVD you purchased to your iPod/Zune. However, sharing that ripped file in any way is still illegal.

I tried the AnyDVD and DVD clone software free trial and it seemed to work great for ripping it and cloning a DVD. I haven't tried to move it to the Zune yet. Thanks for all the input.
