I missed out on E3 due to work, but I'm definitely having a good time reviewing whats around from our "big three" in the games industry.
Nintendo looks pretty solid, definitely probably what I'll be banking on next term around.
I still have to look at the Microsoft and Sony presentations, but frankly, I've never really left Big N, up to 27 years old now. That, and on a separate note now, finding 1993's Super Mario Bros Movie has really brought my spirit up in regards to the co.
What did you guys think?

Frankly, I'm getting tired of the "motion gaming" trend. If I wanted to play soccer or go bowling, I would just go outside and do that. I don't want to have all video games become rail shooters, or that new lightsaber kinect game where you can't even move your character around the world, and the enemies just run in waves at you.
Sony and Nintendo both have 3d things coming out. I think the 3d thing is kind of cool, but both Nintendo and Sony mentioned that 3d gaming and TV is causing severe migraines in a large number of users.
Another trend I'm noticing is that FPS's are becoming nothing more than carbon copies of each other.
Ranting aside, I am stoked to see a few games that are coming out. Rocksmith seems to be pushing technology pretty far in the music gaming industry, and I wouldn't be too surprised if other (realistic) instrument games came out in the near future. Bioshock Infinite also seemed promising. The new Batman game is another one that I'm probably going to pick up. All in all, E3 made some pretty sweet promises this year, only time will tell if the games deliver on them though.

| | | | I definitely hear you there. FPS gaming was painful for wii BECAUSE of the motion aspect. Rail shooters....not that bad. As far as the 3d, I'm sure there is some way to balance out migraines. I think the main problem with 3d is that both sony and nintendo are releasing MOBILE systems. Its a whole different game when your actually moving around AND trying to balance 3d with your senses. Similarly to noise-cancelling headphones. Notice, it IS nice to get the sound of your tires making love to rough highway pavement, but ever notice how it just HURTS after a while? I hardly think on any big screen with high def that 3d would cause issues. We've already had graphics come out and for years most people have been fine with it.
I definitely think that shooters are becoming similar, but I gotta admit, watching some of the Duke Nukem Forever gameplay (took long enough) was pretty sweet in comparison to just "ok, halo. ok, resistance. ok, lets all rush out in a marine style combat setting."

I didn't pay attention to E3. Were there any announcements about a new NFS game? I have Shift 2, but I don't really like it.

It looks like they really went GTA to me, but that's about the only trailer I saw. If there were any others, they may have been more focused on the racing and less on the "Driver" or "GTA" elements of the game.

I agree on the GTA comment after reading the review where it said..."whether you're inside the car or out". I'll pass, and just keep playing Carbon and Undercover.

| | | | Very "meh" year.
Motion: gaming "meh"
3D: "eck"
Wii-U: My favorite gaming company of all time has failed me. I think it's terrible.
Xbox and PS3: Oh boy new lame FPSs on the same engines that could have just been map expansion packs. But the neo-hardcore group will eat them up like cocaine and studios will still pump them out.
Square Enix: Oh boy FFXIII-2, hey look more garbage, outsource everything to level 5 so they can save what's left of your terrible company..
Really nothing about this E3 was good or noteworthy.
I'm only holding judgment for the PS Vita because it might be a decent piece of hardware.

-Mike | I love the NFS gams but they have been heading steadily downhill since Ungerground 2, IMO. Less and less about tuning/racing and more about outrunning the cops

I am playing my Xbox Live Marketplace game more than full retail releases because they are much more fun.
Let creativity thrive again and games will sell themselves and stop the cookie cutter games that are "sure bets". Gaming has gotten predictable and boring. |

| | | | I think the wii-u can be cool but I'll certainly have to see more before I can make a final judgement seeing how it won't be out until the holiday season of 2012 I think nintendo should have just left it for next e3 when A. they have actual games to show and B. have the deatails more ironed out for both the system and controller.
i'm excited for a couple of games the highest on the list has to be sly 4 though. I've been waiting years for that game to come out. I'm also looking forward to arkham city (though who isn't) and the new shooter from Insomniac called overstrike (finally some personality in a shooter)

If I was to put down one thing Playstation's next handheld would have, it'd have to be that. I'm almost but not quite amazed they dare after shamelessly copying Wii's controllers, and failing doing so at the same time.
As for E3 as a whole, I guess I have to turn on my Wii again. New Zelda, it hardly gets better than that (unless its an Elder Scrolls!!!). No Advance Wars announced as far as I heard either, which sucked. I like dem Advance Wars. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
