I got my ears pierced some time last September but since then they have closed up. I took them out some time in November/December because I started to develop keloid scars on both ears around the piercing. The scars have diminished quite a bit since then, but they are still there right over where the holes were, barely noticeable unless you felt the ear with your fingers . Now, I am wanting to get my ears pierced again in a few months, but I don't know if it would just cause the scars to flare up again, or whatever the term would be. Also, would it be very painful to get your ears pierced through a keloid scar? If any of you have had similar experiences with piercings, speak up.

Either way, yes you will likely flare up your scars, and piercing scars is painful, I had my nipple repierced after it fell out and it was more painful than normal. If I were you I would rub them with Vitamin E oil or some of that scar reducer stuff. If they are small ones they should go away pretty fast. You say in a couple months, wait till then and see if they are gone. (I'd put good money on them being gone) If they are, pierce away. If not, well you could risk it and just be very careful and follow your piercers instructions. It likely wouldn't be terrible. Oh and make sure you never get them done with a gun! Piercing guns are blunt and tear tissue thus leading to scars. Pay the little bit extra and go to a pro, less painful, cleaner, far less likely to have complications. Good luck! |

Keloid formation directly correlates to the amount of melanin in your skin. That is, if they are true keloids.
If it's a keloid it will always extend past the pierced area. Hypertrophic is much smaller and closer to skin tone/clearer.
Lime suggests scar reducers, but these only work with hypertrophic scarring.
From your description, however, you do not have keloids. So, scar reducers may work.
It will hurt a bit more to have them re-pierced, but is it really a big deal? The pain goes away quickly, and you will be glad you did it afterwards. This is coming from a guy with more than his share of piercings, stretches, and dermal punches. |

And I went to the doctor when I first noticed them and he told me they were keloids. Maybe I just didn't explain them properly to you guys.
