Earth Hour is Today!

My family is participating. We are turning everything off from 830 - 930. To me its not about making a "big" difference in saving electricity for an hour. Its about the symbolism that we care about the planet.

i've been clicking the 'light switch' on youtube all day, although i've mostly done that just because it makes it easier to see the video. i think it should be a permanent YT option.

does it count if after i turn everything off i go for a drive because i'm bored?

My daughter, the gf and I are going to light some candles and play a board game. It'll be like Little House on the Prairie but with more beer and cursing and a whole lot less god.

I do the opposite for Earth Hour. During the entire rest of the year I'm very frugal with my energy consumption. But during Earth Hour I turn every electrical appliance in my house on at once and go out to the electric meter and watch the wheel spin around like a top.

Last Earth day, I cut the catalytic converters off my car and let all but 6 lbs of air out of the tires before I went driving around with the AC on full blast.

I have to be contrary. I celebrate Human Achievement Hour instead. As I did last year, I spent the hour with the handiwork of one Clarence Leonidas Fender.

Now that is a great thing!! I hope you used the most powerful amp you own and dime it.

Earth Hour Just another stupid idea so people can feel good about themselves for doing nothing.

I'm too old to care about, validate or respect symbolism.

I never used to mind the old power-cuts as it goes, it did remind me that the flaming T.V. and computer were eating my time up, and there is indeed a life without them. I think it's worth doing for the perspective definitely, you may even remember who you used to be without the shiz around you imo, like back in the day, before we were thrown the bunkum we got now.

Over the years I've come to hate "awareness" events.

Alright, I'm aware of the problem. What now?

I'm going to celebrate by turnig all my radiators up, leaving my laptop on standby, tunring my PS3 on, watching TV, running two hot baths at once, microwaving a puppy, washing the dishes, putting a pizza in the oven and plugging my amp in even though it doesn't quite work and I've not got a bass at home.
