ebay's "buy it now"

Sign in to disble this ad
so i had a pedal that i sold yesterday within an hour of me posting it on. this was at 8:30 yesterday morning. I put free shipping with "buy it now" But when it came to the invoice on ebay i couldn't delete the built-in price for shipping that i had to put. For some reason, i thought you could just do a buy it now price and not have to do a starting bid. But since i couldn't figure out how to not do a starting bid, they made me put in a shipping price as well. The guy who bought it through buy it now says that he doesen't want to pay for the shipping. I told him that if it still makes him pay for the shipping i will reimburse him. So far i still haven't heard from him and im starting to wonder if he backed out. I thought it was buy it now not "maybe tomorrow"

You can give him a credit on the invoice to cover it.

I'd be nervous about completing the deal as well if I got charged shipping after the auction said I would not be.

Simple just don't go through eBay for payment.

If the buyer is paying via PayPal... he can just choose "send money" and just not state that it's an "auction" only "goods".

OR

You could send him a PayPal invoice (again, not through eBay) for the amount that he is to pay.

Simple.

Hope this helps.

You can't blame the buyer, it's a mistake on your part. How would you handle it if you won an auction, and the seller said to you, something to the effect of "I know I said shipping was included in the price, but I messed up though, and have to charge extra for shipping. I'll reimburse you for that after you pay me though, I swear"

No way, there's way too many scammers on eBay nowadays for someone to actually believe that.

Paypal only covers you if you use it with an official eBay auction. If you go outside of eBay, and just 'Send Money' or use an invoice, the buyer has no protection. Again, while this isn't a scam, scammers have tried similar approaches in the past, so it wouldn't at all surprise me if the buyer wouldn't go for this.

first of all it really wasent my fault if there was no way of including the shipping anywhere on the ebay site? second wouldn't you think it wouldn't matter to someone paying $700 for a pedal that $18 for shipping could easily be reimbursed. @ve emaild him several times telling him I'd work with him. how do you give someone credit on an invoice? and can you send them another invoice if you've already sent one?

Bro...I don't think anyone is pacing blame on you for this, or thinks you're running a scam. I was only explaining how I would have felt had I been the buyer.

$18 is a small refund compared to $700, I agree. So small that I might be concerned the seller would forget to send it, or not consider it a big enough deal to hassle with.

I would be a little worried as the seller that he has not replied to your attempts to contact him. Conduct yourself by the eBay regulations in this deal, and you should be fine. I believe if he does not respond in a certain amount of time that you can re-list the item. I would continue trying to contact him and keep copies of those attempts.

I do ebay for a living at work. This is an easy fix.

You need to log into paypal, go to your profile, in your profile, in the third column over is your preferences and settings for all your ebay stuff. You need to enable the sellers +/- field. This will allow him to pay you and deduct the shipping charge. The sellers+/- field is under the shipping charge, have him enter a negative amount ( if your shipping is $18.00, then he will enter -18.00) and it is taken care of before the money is even sent.........

Hope that helps.......
