EBAY'S LATEST SCAM - BE AWARE !!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Even without Meg Whitman, eBay has found a new way to rip off sellers. Be Aware before you list anything there.

WITHOUT NOTIFYING YOU - they can put a 21 day hold on money sent to you, but you still have to ship the item! Their justification is that this is "common practice" and is ostensibly designed to "protect" buyers from flakey sellers with low or poor feedback.

However, they can put you on 21 day delay just because you have not been listing and selling enough items! SELL MORE ON EBAY OR WE WILL BE FORCED TO MAKE 21 DAYS' INTEREST ON YOUR MONEY WHILE YOU WAIT FOR IT !

Dear Google - Where O Where is your auction site?????

Given that I have more than 950 feedbacks, 100% positive, I'm not particularly worried about it.

The rumors & hearsay alone has prompted me to refrain from selling on ebay. TB rocks

Yeah. I stick with TB. Ebay is pretty much a rip. Especially since it seems like 90% of sellers are dealers anyway who are offering the same BIN price as any old internet store. This 20 day hold is just another turd floating in the ebay porcelain pool.

So did a lot of people whose payments were held because they had not sold enough RECENTLY. Check it out.

I had 500 positive transactions, one negative from an arse who tried to scam me and I reported him. Guess who is now in the category of "flaky seller"? eBay wont last too much longer with their idiotic way of doing things these days.

This isn't new. This policy has been in place since around 2008. I was able to complain a few times to PayPal and get my money released but now I just avoid selling on Ebay. If they want to hold my money, they're not going to see a cent from me again.

The difference is that they can now put you in the "flakey seller" category for simply not selling enough or often enough, regardless of your past performance.

There is no way on Earth I'd tolerate ebay keeping my money for 21 days. But that's just me, YMMV.

It's easy to see that their policies for releasing money are usually about increasing their profit rather than protecting buyers. That's obvious from the fact that the normal timing is three days IIRC, but if you want it faster they'll release it for a fee (and a steep one, too). I know that the 21 day thing is different, but the same principle applies - they're just maximising the interest they can get on your cash.

I never use ebay now, and rarely even PayPal as a seller. All my gear selling is done on BassChat.co.uk and my feedback there is good enough for people to be happy paying by direct transfer for most deals, which suits me fine.

I have used TB as well and the site seems to work very well as a marketplace, but of course it's mainly US so BassChat is more likely to find me a buyer here in the UK.

I understand the annoyance, but this isn't about earning interest on the held funds. 3-month Treasury interest rates are .01% right now, so 21 days interest on $10,000 is about 6 cents (.0001 x 21/365 x 10000).

^ˆˆ^This!

I’m not in possession of Ebay’s operations data but I know one thing for certain; the more unethical people behaviors get, the tougher, rules and regulations get! And as always, good people suffer from other bad people’s actions!

My sister-in-law told me that she already got her money from a sell she made about a week ago; that’s not bad for someone with less than 10 positive feedbacks! She received the funds as soon as the buyer left her a positive feedback.

On the other hand, my own recent experience as a buyer has been that a seller withheld an item I bought on ebay for 21 straight days before shipping it. He told me about his plan only after I made the purchase. Probably his way of protesting against ebay's new rules, but still...

It might be that he would have received his money earlier had he shipped the item right away! Now I still don’t know whether I should leave him a positive feedback or not even though he has 100% positive feedbacks (mostly for buying)!

I just read that it is 21 days or until the buyer leaves positive feedback, whatever comes first.

the problem is that not everyone leaves pos feedback. I have 500 pos, 1 neg and about 100 who never bothered to leave feedback at all.

As I understand it though, (and I could be wrong about this) if you get a tracking number and it's deemed as "delivered" by whichever carrier, then I think they'll release your money sooner. Though I have not put that to the test yet.

And in as far as this being a money-making thing - you cant think of it as 6 cents on $10,000 for 21 days.

It's interest on potentially thousands of daily transactions, day after day, 365 days/year. It adds up nicely for them I'm sure. It may not be huge, but it must be gaining them more $ than the $ they are losing as sellers move away from eBay, no?

In the past few years, it seems like ebay is really trying to kill itself.

I can confirm this to be true. But it did take about 2 days after it was delivered by UPS for the money to be released.

or unless you either print a shipping label through paypal or input tracking information that can confirm when it has been delivered.
