Any of you suffer from eczema? Have you found anything that helps long-term? I feel like I have to take it easy while playing for a couple weeks at a time when it flares up (I get it really bad on the fingers on my left (fretting) hand). |

I have one or two spots that never clear up and thats the only thing that calms it down. Moisturize just a bit after using the vinegar. I found one called Cetaphil that was the best for me. Moisturizing before vinegar always made it worse for me.

it actually warms your skin and calms it down, one little bottle will last you a long time, a few drops go pretty far, plus the st johns wort might make you less neurotic or depressed about your skin and you might stop scratching (if you believe it i guess) |

I will definitely look up the dr hauschka's oil too - I could stand to be a little less neurotic too |

I thought it had gone away with tons of lotion(jergens, or whatever the wife has around) however it came back this back week. Dyshidrotic eczema - PubMed Health

| | THIS HAND OF MINE GLOWS WITH AN AWESOME POWER! | | Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: USA; Mitchellville, Maryland | | The doctor thought I had eczema but now no ones knows what it is, lol. Those part of my skin (stomach, chest) are just a bit darker than others and used to be super dry but not any more. At this point it's just discolored skin and my brother has the same thing.
The doctors thought I had eczema (the real deal) on my legs but it turned out I was just REAAAAALLY ashy .

Never been diagnosed, but it's identical to a friend's who's been diagnosed. Winter it can get bad. Right now I only have it on a few small spots on my left hand. No advice, but here to learn. Not too sure I want my hands smelling like vinegar.
Someone (a nurse actually) once told me peeing on it will make it go away. Something tells me that might be true, but I'm not the type to walk around with piss on my hands. I think you make enemies like that. Well, if they ever find out. |

| | | | If I'm not mistaken, Fluocinonide is prescription only. It does work, it's just a hassle, especially to have on your hands because it's an ointment (at least it was last time I got some).
The key for me is that I'm very undisciplined about scratching, and will scratch any hotspot all day every day until there's an open wound. Two solutions I use:
1) Benadryl makes a good cortisone cream that's a bit stronger than Cortaid or other related creams. Good to stop the itch for a while.
2) I put band-aids or athletic tape on my fingers/hands for a day or two. This prevents me from even being able to scratch, and then they heal and I'm done. If it's on your fingers, you may need to stop playing for a bit. If you can't resist or have a gig or something, Superglue helps keep the skin from breaking open while playing. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
