Effects of Alcohol

Sign in to disble this ad
Every time I drink, I feel sick. Whether it's 2 beers, or 20. I get a headache, my stomach hurts, I get sweaty and dizzy.

I know, I know, these sound like the normal effects of tying one on, but like I said, a drop or a gallon, and the effect is the same. I feel it now, and I haven't even slept yet. I had a few Rolling Rocks while grilling. No binge drinking at all.

I'm 33 and have had my fair share of hangovers, but lately, the booze seems to be taking it's toll on me more than normal.

Anyone else develop adverse reactions to alcohol?

I don't drink but I personally know some people who are allergic to alcohol and have the same symptoms you describe and they cannot have anything with alcohol including liquid medicines.

I don't get the stomachache or dizzy but some beer gives me a headache and nasal congestion so I try to stick to a brand that doesn't affect me. I guess I am allergic to the ingredients in some formulas.

There are people who don't have the gene for some enzyme that's necessary for the normal metabolism of alcohol. Historically, it was mostly folks of Asian descent, but I imagine that it can happen to anybody.

Also, I have a friend who is not allergic to the alcohol, but something else in most beer and wine. Sulfites?

George Carlin said something interesting in regards to drug use. When you first start something it's almost all pleasure and no pain, but as you go along and begin using something more and more the scale begins to tip until one day it's all pain and no pleasure. You might need to just give up on booze. I'm only 21 and have already began to give up drinking it much if any at all. It was fun for a while but I'm finding the side effects not worth the few hours of bliss. And like you, I'm finding that it's taking less and less to get me feeling bad the morning after. It's not all bad though. My clothes fit better and I have more money in my bank account now

The minute alcohol touches my tongue, my need to pee increases 10 fold at least.

Do you actually fight through the pain and get to 20?

Does it happen with all alcohol - beer, wine, spirits?

From what you've described - have you possibly reached the stage of alcoholism? It changes the chemical balance in your brain, permanently. You can tell - when the buzz you get isn't the same as it used to be ..... fun. When you just don't feel good anymore; there's a problem.

I hope I'm not making you mad, but maybe it's time to back off the beer for a while anyway. I've been through it many, many times, and know what it's like.

beer usually does the same thing to me, and as a result, I avoid it. Most other alcoholic beverages are fine though

If I get drunk on beer I know I'll have a vicious hangover with a stomach that tries to kill me. Usually lasts til 5pm. Wine or whiskey doesn't have those effects. I'll be tired and have a mild head ache, sure. But that's all. One or two beers are OK.

I've reached the conclusion that I need to accept the fact that I like beer, but beer doesn't like me. So I do quality over quantity. Sorry, Maki

It's 50/50 although usually I drink to ease the headache

If I alternate the experience is much better every time, so alcohol one time, beer the next, and everything is smooth as silk

I drink A LOT less than I used to since I stopped playing in my last party/cover band 3-4 years ago.

Man goes to the doctor, says " Doc, it hurts when I do this".

Doc says, "Don't do that. That'll be $185."

Do your cheeks get REALLY flushed after a beer or two? Your body chemistry can change. Sounds like you developed an intolerance. That or you need to get your blood pressure or blood sugar checked.

Edit: One glass of wine give me a nasty headache and acidic stomach. I used to be able to drink it fine.

just turned 28 and yes I do feel more nauseated when I drink, but the hangovers arenlt as bad it seems, probably because I've learned moderation.

Check your blood pressure.
If it's a little high already, alcohol will bring it up even higher and you may experience exactly what you describe.

I think I found your problem ^

Ever since it got bought out and moved to New Jersey,
Rolling Rock is not what it used to be.
