No, not the Zappa gal.
Today, I was in a part of the store that I don't usually visit. A small Philipino girl clutching a notebook approached me, asking how I was doing today. She then launched into her donation-soliciting spiel about, of all things, the Unification Church. She showed me a card, with the Church's name on one side, and the reverend's name on the other. I was shocked to read the name...
Sun Myung Moon.
A real live Moonie! Right here in Frederick MD!
It's been the best part of 20 years since I'd seen a Moonie, out in L.A. Hadn't even heard them mentioned since I moved back here in 1993. The girl was skinny and looked hungry. If I hadn't just come back from lunch, I'd have offered to take her over to Chick-fil-A for a sandwich. Store staff soon shooed the poor thing out into the rain.
I had no idea the Moonies were still in business. She claimed Moon himself is alive and "still working hard". This kid was probably not even born the last time I saw one.
I swear, it was like seeing a dodo bird, or a baby panda or something! A Moonie, in 2008! Wow!
