What trips me out is that people have deduced (predicted) that 12-21-12 will be a life changing day for a long, long time. People that knew that they would be dead by the date.
WE are here and are going to get to experience whatever happens (or doesn't).
whether 12-21-12 means the world is going to end, a new age of enlightenment, aliens showing up, ect.... I don't know,
But I for one am looking forward to finding out.
My woman has been saying that if the world does come to an end, she's going to be pretty pissed off because we still have available credit left on our credit cards that could have been spent partying our way to extinction. |

Over seven billion people will die in that time frame (probably more like eight billion or more, if you count the people who haven't been born yet but will die during that time). That's at least 150,000 a day, on average. So the world will end for over 600,000 people by Friday. Will you be one of them?

The meaning that it's the end of the world is just an interpretation that some modern day idiots put on it. | IIRC the Mayan calendar had no leap year. If this signified the end of civilization it should have happened in August.
Just remember this Friday to take down your old Mayan calendar and put up your new one! |

Shouldn't their doomsday calendar chiseler guy seen that one coming? | The Mayans are still there, without the associated empire. |

The Mayan civilization was gone a long time before the Spanish ever got there.

You are confused with the Inca | I may have some aspects confused, but I'm sure that the Maya lived until Spanish conquest, and after. They're still relatively present today, as far as I know. They may have had a decline well before the Spanish arrived, but in some areas they continued to survive and develop until, and after, the Spanish arrived. |

The peoples the Spanish screwed over were the Azteks, who outlived/offshot from the Mayans. Both peoples are still around in smaller numbers, and intermixed with the Spanish leftovers, but the societies themselves died out. They did leave behind some impressive architecture, though.
Another thing to consider: The Mayan long calendar ends this year, but if we put it in pespective, some people could say any given year, the world would end on Dec. 31, as our current calendar ends on that day. Other than many hangovers, there's not much that happens on Jan. 1.
