I mean it is just a safety thing in general. If you are bold enough, you could always ask someone to use their cell phone and I'm sure you'd find someone who would let you.
Inevitably though, having pay phones around, despite if it may be infrequent, is a good safety measure. |

Sad to see the payphones go, but not unexpected as they cost a lot in maintenance and mobiles will be cutting into revenuse. Lots of servos (gas stations) and small stores here still have them though.

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | I refuse to have a cell phone. I'm on the phone all day at work. If I'm not home, leave me a message! I don't see any need to talk to anyone if I'm not around. I once had a conversation with a guy in a stall in the mens room until I realized he was on the phone with someone else. I mean c'mon! Who has casual conversation with anyone whilst pooping in a public restroom??

I think that pay phones serve a great purpose since they can come in handy in an emergency situation. I know that's why people bring cell phones with them, but you can't always rely on just your cell phone (reception, forgot to bring it, ...). |

But I don't see the point of them being everywhere anyway. It is pretty easy to ask for someone to use their phone if it is a real emergency.. its not like you know where half the payphones are these days because they got rid of so many of them (they should start an sms service for it ). I could understand though if you live in an outer metropolitan area with dodgy reception, then they should still keep them.
