If you were given undeniable evidence that cutting your grass two inches longer than you currently do, would decrease the amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere and increase the amount of Oxygen, would you?

Just a simple yes or no, it's not a topic that needs to be debated here on Talkbass. I just want to get a general feel for what kind of response to expect.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Yes, I would, but only because I'm lazy and hate to mow my grass. not because of some trumped up pseudo-scientific enviro-babble...

You mean leave my grass 2 inches taller?

Sure... Why not?

This feels like some sort of trick question.

I agree with you, but voted no. If the "undeniable evidence" includes a reason for why we need to increase the oxygen content then I have no issue letting the stuff grow a little longer.

I'd stop cutting it all together for less of a good reason. Like if the city wouldn't issue me a fine for instance.

I thought that first part too. But it's not logical at all, when I thought about it one more time.

I already leave my grass two inches longer...ok, possibly four or five inches too long. Then one of my neighbours will either mow the lawn or I'll get bored and mow it myself.

No.

But I would perhaps cut it more seldom. What's sounds better to you - to let it grow to 4" before you cut it to 1", or cut it to 2" every time it reaches 3"?

I leave my grass a little longer in the summer anyway so it shades itself and I have to use less water.

Well, as of yet, there's no research that I'm aware of to credit/discredit the theory - it's just one of those thoughts where you go, "if green stuff (plants) uses CO2 and produces O2, more green stuff equals less CO2 and more O2". Sounds rational to me, even without evidence. I think it's funny how certain people by default, will reject new ideas without even giving it a thought too.

Since I'm nearing the end of my education (finally!) and have my final project coming up this winter, I was thinking of topics I could do it on. This happens to be one of them.

I voted yes, but this thread also reminded me that I have to mow my lawn tonight after work.

So... thanks for the reminder!

I would have voted yes too if the machines that cut the grass wouldn't release large amounts of CO2 and consume gasoline. Hence my previous reply.

You wouldn't have to cut your grass any more often than you already do, therefore gas consumption/CO2 production would remain the same. Or less if you choose to cut your grass less.

Depends on how much work your lawnmower has to do to cut that 4" grass to 1". Why not let it grow to 5" or 6" and then cut it to 3" or 4"?

And as I originally stated (and ignored my own intentions ), I don't want to turn this into a big debate. Just a yes or no will suffice.

You can get electric mowers if that was a big concern. (a 3.5 HP Briggs and Stratton motor doesn't use that much fuel...)
