Euphemism: A Hairdresser's Story

Sign in to disble this ad
Last Monday I went to a picnic at the beach with my fiancee and future in-laws. Twas my fiancee and I, her sister, her parents, her grandparents (fathers side), and her father's Cousin Brian, who happens to be gay.

We were enjoying a nice lunch of pasta salad, potato salad, strawberries and wine (beer for me) and sharing stories.

Cousin Brian (as we call him) had made some comment earlier about how hairdressers were 'his people' in which my fiancee mentioned that the flute player in her band is also her hairdresser. Cousin Brian says 'Oh, I bet he's straight'. Actually, he is, girlfriend and all. Keighley tells him this much.

A while later the subject has changed. I forget what the precise topic of conversation was, but we were bandying about and Nana, Keighley's grandmother, started talking about some actor or something who is gay. She says to Cousin Brain, 'Oh, you'd like him, he's one of your people'. Quickly seizing the moment, I ask Nana, 'He's a hairdresser?'

That had everybody in stitches for a while and for the rest of the evening the word 'hairdresser' came to substitute anytime the word 'gay' would have been used. Just goes to show you, stereotypical jokes are still quite funny.

This story is offensive to gay people, hair dressers, in-laws, fiancees, sisters, parents and grandparents. Also, pasta salad, strawberries and wine.

I'm organizing a march for anti-discrimination laws to be implemented to protect potato salad from your white-priveleged prejudice.

At least easily mistaken for...

Cousin Brian once went to visit family in Texas, back when my gf's cousin lived there. He met some of their friends, who seemed to like him. Then some girl asks "Is he gay?" to which another Texan Girl replies 'No, he's Canadian'.

I learnt a new term recently: Aphasia: http://lpcoverlover.com/wp-content/u...03-500x500.jpg
To me(after several tall glasses of cheap wine)it sounds a tad bit similar to *euphemism*

I believe the potato salad did, but am pretty sure the pasta salad did not.
