Ever had a public argument with your significant other?

No point to this, just a rant.

Me and the wife always make at least one night a week 'date night'. We just go out to a restaurant so we actually get to spend some time together. Could be somewhere nice or the local pizza joint, depends how many gigs I've played that weekend!

Anyhow the last two times we've been out there's been a very intense and obvious row happening a table or two from us to the point where it's distracted us and we can't help listening in to some degree and it's kinda spoiled the evening although we're both happy we never get like that. Both times the guy seemed to be an ahole, the first guy kept saying 'you're arguing with me' like it was wrong to have a different opinion. The second guy was obviously hammered.

I can't think of any situation where I would have a row with my better half in public, I'd save it for when we got home or the car at the very least. In fact why go out in the first place if you're fighting. I was at the point of getting the server to move us tonight but we were nearly done.

I know I'm an intolerant old git but do people really feel it's acceptable to air their dirty laundry in public these days? Tell me it's not so!

Happened every now and then with my ex. She was nuts though. Definately not normal.

Airing your dirty laundry in public isn't cool. It seems to be generally the lower life forms that feel it's necessary to broadcast their issues...

Yeah those things are better left for behind closed doors, the fact that its a regular occurrence makes it worse.

I had a terrible argument with my ex once in a friends driveway next to a busy street. She threw a handful of rocks at me and the hit a car passing by. They turned around and I gave them the $80 I had in my pocket so they wouldn't call the police. It was all very sophisticated

We had a bit of a slanging match in a field the other day, but the only witnesses were the horses and they didn't care, so I don't think it counts.

Yeah, never in public. It's just poor taste and judgement.

I haven't encountered this argument thing you speak of, but I have (too often lately) encountered the "braying like an ass, drunk, acting way to young for his age, gotta be the life of the party" type douche that thinks nothing of dropping f bombs in a public restaurant, and within earshot of my 7 year old son.

The last time, after having asked nicely to him twice to stop and consider where he is and who could hear him, and him mock-apologizing, I called management over and they escorted him out. There was applause. While he was still in there. The other 3 in his party were mortified. We all watched him drive off, gladly.

Doubt he learned a thing.

Too much Alcohol will 'bring it on'.

I was on a 3 hour bus ride a while back, I was sat next to a couple whom argued for the entire journey including a couple of face slaps perpetrated by this woman during the course, I don't get involved in 'affairs of the heart' arguments, you may become a/the focus of that kind of dissatisfaction, I couldn't believe the fact that this couple decided it was O.K. for this very public performance, the bus was completely full, I was sat next to the guy 4 inches away from him, I thought it would 'cool down' but it didn't, not for the entire 3 hours, bizarre, the couple didn't care a jot about it.

I'm with the OP and others, if we're going to fight, I'd prefer we not do it in public. My last GF felt otherwise, though.

Just one example: we had a months-long battle over where I should attend graduate school. One weekend, one of her co-workers was having a birthday party, and she wanted us to go. OK, fine. We get there, say hi to the host, walk out to the back yard, and she strats in on me about grad school. What the heck? It couldn't wait until we left the party? Then why did we attend at all? If we aren't going to have a good time or even talk to anyone else, why not just stay home?

If one approaches you be sure to sing at her, "American woman! Gettaway from me!! American woman! Mama let me be!"

(p.s. No song has ever been so sucked dry of life as Lenny Kravitz version of that song).

A former long term girlfriend of mine was also a musician, which explains a lot of our personal and private 'face-off's,' she also knew how to impress her point by kidnapping my basses on rare occasion, more than once have I seen a Stingray5 or significant other, being hauled out of the house into a car without a case by an irate female : ) She was a great character though, if you want to date the 'characters' you will have to somehow adjust to the 'quirks' (if that is possible) imo.

(Here's a tip, DO NOT SEARCH FOR "American Woman" in google image search . . . )

Why? That first image result is very artistic. I respect that.
