Exactly how much truth is there to this picture?

I thought about doing a poll but that basically invites people to leave an answer and then run away without explaining their viewpoint and I'm looking for explanations on this one. Here's the pic in question:

I'm a mac guy because they look pretty and run clean and easy. I don't mean to say that PCs don't (I've got Windows XP and soon Windows 7 on Bootcamp) I just like my overpriced slice of awesome. So if my machine's a tricycle then so be it, I've got the sexiest three-wheeler on the block. What I want to know is exactly how much truth is there to this analogy (besides the price stuff)? I like to consider myself a computer guy but I'm not nearly as knowledgable as some of the people on here are so I'd like to hear their opinions .

personally, I think the mac vs pc debate is nothing more than an overblown version of "my horse is bigger than your horse". It's a non issue. It doesn't matter. The whole debate is childish. Use whichever you prefer, and as long as it performs adequately for what you need it to do, then it's a good system.

And I just simply don't care one way or another.

I use a PC. The rest of you can do whatever you want.

That is far too much of a level headed comment for TB

Not saying I disagree with you though. Use what you like and leave the rest alone.

I'm a mac guy since the last 6-7 years. I'm obliged to use PC at work. Since last week, I have a new laptop at work, running under windows 7, and I'd have to say that finally microsoft seems to have done something "user friendly"

What blows me away is that macs cost twice the price for the same bloody components.

What's worse is that you can't customize them. You are offered a few choices, but that's it. PC are infinitely customizable, and significantly cheaper.

Plus, personally, I despise the mac interface. It's like it was designed to be so simple that you have to be BELOW an IQ threshold to grasp it.

I'm sure most Mac users know that we're paying crazy high prices but we all attribute the cost difference between Macs and PCs. Check out the first post for my reason for paying more

On the bolded part, I think the Macs interface is a genius design but that's just my opinion. If it turns out that it really was made for the "not-so-smart" among us then more power to Apple for making computers accessible to everyone, I'm sure it doesn't hurt their business much at all . "Gawd, this is so simple! I hate it!" is not exactly a typical response to ease of use .

I've thought as much for years as well. What I would like to see is a series of "high performance" tests just to see the results.

IMO ... this Ad is simple pandering to the masses. Not totally off base ... but not entirely accurate either.

Mac's are just about a "must have" for anyone who is in the Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, and Music Producing industries. Mac's are some of the most powerful, fastest, and graphically dominant platforms out there ... right out of the box ... and have been for years. Speaking of years ... when your $1500 PC is worth $500 is a couple of years ... a $1500 Mac will still command a good majority of its retail price.

Heck ... My ol' Macintosh 7600 PowerPC can still smoke my wife's new-ish Dell (my old tangerine iBook can just about too. )

As of the past 5 or so years, I've been mainly a PC user (still use my Macs for any and all heavy graphics work) ... I find PCs to be just fine ... no better or worse for what most folks need a computer to do.

The only problem I find with PCs is ... Microsoft. Let's face it ... it's not the hardware ... it's the platform.

My $0.02

I think the Mac advantage is an illusion, I've been using one for over 4 months now on a regular basis for development and have experienced my fair share of kernal panics and inexplicable lockups. It's all marketing hype.

As long as you don't want to game...

Edit: I've also gone through this many a time, but you can part together a PC that has the same Stats as a mac for about half the price.

~15 years ago someone gave me a bumper sticker that said

"Windows 95 = Macintosh '89"

Meh.

I dont even own a computer. When I get one it will most likely be a PC, because they are more affordable. I plan on doing video editing, and if can put together an A+ project on an outdated PC some 5 years ago I have no problem thinking that I can get what I need out of it.

It's started to change, so if you wanna play tetris or WoW on a Mac you can, but if you're into things like Crysis or Dead Space or the other high end games like that you're SOL
