Executive Education/Certificate Programs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone here done one of these?

Historically, I haven't paid them much attention but I've recently run across one that seems like it might be a good investment: http://exed.wisc.edu/cert/salesProfessional/

I've already spoken to the Program Director and I'm waiting for a list of folks who've completed the program so I can get their impressions.

Has anyone had good (or bad) luck with programs like this?

That's a solid university, so it's not a fly-by-night program.

Question is whether that specific credential is relevant to YOU in YOUR specific career path. Certificates are helpful in some professions, meaningless in others. Sometimes what you need is an MBA.

Might be interesting if you could provide information about your career plans and current position - then perhaps people in related positions could opine about whether the certificate would be helpful to you.

i'm a 27-year sales pro, specializing in high-tech. I turn 50 this year and I expect to remain in some sort of sales role for the foreseeable future.

I took a course in "Managing Project Risks" from the UW executive education program. It was well taught. Some of my day job co-workers have taken other courses there, and I think their opinions have been generally positive. In the course that I took there was a lot of interaction, and breakouts into smaller groups. I actually learned quite a lot from my classmates, many of whom were years ahead of me in project management, but who wanted to get their formal certification.
