Extra shipping costs, do I have a case??

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, I bought an item online, and i asked the guy how much it would cost for it to be shipped, the TOTAL cost to get it to me.

So he emailed me back said $65.xx, so I decided that was ok, and I ordered the item. Well today it arrived and I have to pay an extra $185.00 to pick it up!!!??

So what I'm wondering is if I asked him the TOTAL price and he said that it would cost only $65 (and I have documentation of this), would I somehow be able to send the item back without having to pay the $185 and receive my payment on the original $65, or somehow still get the item without paying the $185 (I know it's a long shot for that one).

This is really getting to me...

Is this an international shipment? Did you pay him for the shipping in advance or was it sent COD?

If it's an international shipment, you have to pay Duties/Taxes that you, not the seller, is responsible for.

and there are customs fees tacked on by the carrier......there is a way to save those fees by brokering it yourself with a call to the carrier to set it up when the shipper calls for the tracking info.....tho last time ups would not set it up until the goods entered the country...........they would much rather collect those fees on every item they ship, and narrowing down the available time for self brokerage makes it harder to avoid the brokerage fees but it can still be done.......

many u.s. based shippers have received frantic calls from canadians that were shocked by 35 dollar customs fees on twenty dollar items and they really are not to blame.....unfortunately canooks unfamiliar with the carriers sent back items feeling that they had been screwed...(they had been but not by the u.s. shippers).....

....most times you see conus only,or no canadian shipping it is probably as a result of a u.s. shipper who has had this happen......i wonder if self brokerage info should be stickied,as there has been a lot of stuff i would have liked to buy,but u.s. based sellers would not ship here
