An "F" in a course, help?

Sign in to disble this ad
I logged onto my college's website the other day to check my scores. After midterms, the school posts your current grades; it's not a report card, just a progress update to show you where you stand. I got As and Bs in all my courses except for my Criminology class, in which I got an "F".

I know there has to be a mistake.

I always handed in my papers and did well on them, and I know I scored well on both exams. The only three possibilities I can come up with are:

1. Professor put in 0s for everybody as placeholders since it's only the mid-term update grade (they have to submit, but I've heard of some professors just putting in random numbers if they don't have the actual grades)

2. Typo or other submission mistake.

3. Attendance: I missed class four times during the semester so far; two I was out sick, and the other two times I overslept. I checked my syllabus and under attendance policy it said "Refer to College Academic Handbook". I looked up attendance in the Handbook and it said "professors have discretion in setting own attendance policy"

Any ideas? I've emailed the professor and so far no reply. Going to see my academic advisor this week as well.

Go talk to your prof and then your advisor. Chances are they screwed up somewhere down the line. If you have hard copies of marked assignments where you passed, take those with you to prove you didn't fail the course.

It's not a biggie, man, just a clerical error.

Also, as far as attendance goes... I've passed courses without attending a single class (and failed classes where I attended every single one! I really, REALLY hate math >_<). It depends on the prof, so hey.

you seem like an honest, good working student. I dont think the system will bone you as hard as it reams a student like me.

Stick in there, be polite, and im sure you will be fine. Dont get nervous man.

Never know, maybe the exam didnt go to well?

Just email your Prof and ask.

However, I know that at my uni, if you miss more than one (maybe two) compulsory class without an excuse (lectures generally arent compulsory), then you get struck off the course.

Just show up during his office hours and when he sees that you are asian, he'll know he made a mistake.

I kid, I kid. Just rattling your cage a bit Vince.

But I would show up at his office hours and calmly explain the situation. As others have stated, make sure you bring any graded materials with you. That's why it's always a good idea to keep any assignments/tests that are handed back at least until final grades in the course are recorded.

I'm sure it's a mistake (or laziness on the professors part in not entering grades at all which has been known to happen) but if there is some real issue, are you already past the drop deadline?

Talk to your prof, there is nothing we can do about it. I am not your mother and I am not going to go yell at your prof for you.

I. am. an. idiot.

Prof emailed back. Apparently there was an assignment due a couple of weeks ago that I forgot to submit online to her. She said she'll still accept it for partial credit. Phew!

Yep. Check your syllabus for that class.

Those easily ignored classes sometimes have professors who are determined to ruin the GPA of students who think they're too smart to attend.
