Fellow TB'rs with a heart.

My daughter, along with some other 3rd year students at UBC in Vancouver, have started an NGO in response to the developments in the DR of Congo. One of their initiatives is a Facebook group called:

People to DR Congo: Ten minutes of your time can save thousands of lives

Help the people of Congo (close to 5.5 million deaths so far, compared 6.0 in the holocaust) and support their initiative by joining her group.

Thank you

Brian

Completely unrelated but I was always taught 11 million+ deaths in the holocaust. That is all.

Not putting down the cause but why does everyone think that starting a facebook group is going to change the world?

I've yet to hear of a facebook group that transcended into more than a record of who clicked a link.

The Congo is an utter mess right now. But how many here can tell me anything about it? (Honest question, not sarcasm)

The facebook group isn't going to change the world but maybe a little publicity can't hurt. Sure, I'll look it up.

how about:

Some pretty big numbers there too, yet it's something not too many people know about. So sad

Thanks for the support. Of course a facebook group will not change the world.

As at today, they have a conference call with a federal minister in Ottawa this evening. What started as a school project has turned into a community project that has gained the attention of some well placed ministers in Ottawa.

All I ask is that you join he cause. The support for a simple Facebook group tells people that there is concern for the ongoing killing of people. If you follow world press, the DR of Congo is becoming a growing concern. Sadly, the government of Canada is not responding to the humanitarian crisis that is evolving. Awareness and sending off an email to a member of parliament does get a response.

Our family was recently very moved by a speech that ended with a crescendo of "yes we can". It serves as an inspiration. Signing up to a Facebook group isn't much to ask is it?
