I've heard of fake products, but fake shops?! Quote:
As Apple reveals record sales of $28.57bn for the past quarter, up 90 per cent year-on-year, and profits $7.31bn, up 124 per cent, it has emerged that three fake Apple stores have been opened in Kumming, China.
Blogger BirdAbroad wrote about discovering the first of the stores: “I went inside and poked around. They looked like Apple products. It looked like an Apple store. It had the classic Apple store winding staircase and weird upstairs sitting area. The employees were even wearing those blue T-shirts with the chunky Apple name tags around their necks.
“The name tags around the necks of the friendly salespeople didn’t actually have names on them – just an Apple logo and the anonymous designation ‘Staff’. And of course, Apple’s own website will tell you that they only have a few stores in Beijing and Shanghai, opened only recently; Apple famously opens new stores painstakingly, presumably to assure impeccable standards and lots of customer demand.”
The photographs that accompany the posting (here reproduced courtesy of BirdAbroad) show that at a first glance that the shop looks and feels like an official Apple store.
But there are some clues to reveal that it’s a fake; the stairs were badly-made, and the walls weren’t painted well. Also, the shop calls itself an “Apple Store”. Real Apple stores simply display the Apple logo.
BirdAbroad reports that after exploring the first store, and taking many photographs, she discovered two other fake Apple stores in the same city. What isn’t clear is whether the Apple products on sale are real, “off the back of a lorry” or some of the many fakes that are on sale in China- often it must be said made by the same factories as the originals.
Channel 4 News has contacted Apple but the firm has not yet commented.

In 2002 I remember seeing a pirate Hard Rock Cafe in Thailand.

Not to mention SX basses before all the changes.

It's worth noting that the US is at the other end of the spectrum, and patent trolls drive European innovation businesses away.

Not to mention SX basses before all the changes. | I don't think it's so much to do with them being a major world as it is to do with the near lack of IP rights etc.
