Y hello thar, everyone! It feels like I've been neglecting OT lately even though my last post was yesterday . Anywhoozle, I just got a "family request" from a good friend of mine and it made me think about a few things. At first I was conflicted because, while he is a good friend, biologically, he is not family. And beyond that I don't think we feel the same way about each other. As hilariously bromantic as it sounds, there just isn't any other way to put it, lol. This guy is actually a good friend of mine so it's not creepy or anything like the other dude but I found the situation a little interesting.
I already know how I'm going to handle it but I think it shows that two people can think of each other in very different ways. He considers me a brother, I see him as a just a really good friend. So part of me refusing the family request is the fact that I see him that way. The other part being that, for the information I do have on Facebook, I prefer it to be factually accurate.
I have friends who have scores of "fake" relatives that they haven't talked to in ages and I just see that and ask myself "Why?" Why have all these people that you consider family if you don't even talk to them? I'm not saying don't do it but if you choose to do so, why not make the gesture actually mean something?
...Yeaaaaah, I kinda forgot what the point of this was supposed to be so it ended up turning into more of a rant. Ah, well .

i had a friend who always introduced me as his brother. i eventually got used to it as it went on for years. then one day his mother called me "Son"!
imagine my confusion,.. thinking either these people were psycho, or i've been living with the wrong family!

It is designed to be a place to deposit snark on other people's comments, while deluding yourself that other people care about a) what you ate, b) how drunk you are, c) the results of your favorite sports team, or d) some pseudo-intellectual quote that inspires you.
I'm currently on option D with a Robert Heinlein quote.
So yeah, why not a fake brother? |

My other thread was more about how often I seem to attract people whose company I don't enjoy this. This one isn't so much about being cool as it is differing opinions between friends. I am, by no means, "cool." That much I've know for a long time .
