Will Ferrell hired as NBC's 'Office' tempby James Hibberd

With Steve Carell stepping out of NBC’s The Office, producers have enlisted Will Ferrell to help boost the show’s numbers during the season’s home stretch.

Ferrell will reunite with his Anchorman co-star in a four-episode arc later this season. He’ll play a branch manager who arrives from the home office and proves to be just as inept as Michael Scott.

“We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star,” says executive producer Paul Lieberstein. “We are proud to continue The Office‘s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see: tremendous raw sexuality.”
Three episodes will feature Carell and Ferrell together (they’re not co-workers, they’re co-people), then Ferrell will have one episode working with the Office gang solo after Carell departs (he’s leaving the show four episodes before the season finale, you’ll recall).

I really can't stand Will Ferrell... I think I'll just watch Steve Carell reruns!

“We are proud to continue The Office‘s tradition of discovering famous talent...."

But Will is already famous. So what are they discovering?

This is my problem with so many american TV shows, they'll often start off great, but they really just run them into the ground with far too many series!

I third the meh.

I find Will Farrell to be repetitive and anything but funny. He's made a ton of money playing one character in different roles. It was barely funny the first time, and now the bit's just worn out.

A lot of people are saying that, and I never see it...I guess it's because I haven't been watered down by his act as much as everyone else has. Because I can't remember much of anything besides SNL/Jay & Silent Bob/Old School really

I thought all three were funny, as well as the "Green Team" video on funnyordie. Matter of fact...that was one of the funniest things I had ever seen.

Night at the Roxbury is classic Will Farrell, before he turned into the one-trick pony that he is now.

After about 2003, his roles tend to be VERY similar. I'd say Old School was his last good movie.

Elf
Anchorman
Kicking and Screaming
Wedding Crashers
Talladega Nights
Blades of Glory
Semi Pro
Step Brothers
The Other Guys

He's putting out several movies a year, with just about the same character and making BIG money on that character. From a business perspective, he's doing great. He found what he does well and is continuing to do it successfully. From an entertainment perspective, there's only one movie on that list that I actually enjoyed, and that's Wedding Crashers.

I thought Blades of Glory was pretty good. All the others I didn't like, but, Land of the Lost was pretty good.

Pretty different from his norm, IMO.

I enjoyed Mark Wahlberg in it, but not Will Ferrell so much. Marky Mark stepped out of his comfort zone and did a comedy, and did it well. Will? He did what he does.

Wahlberg was great in 'I <3 Huckabees', a existential comedy.
