Fantasy Adventure and SyFy Geeks Rejoice!

As some of you may know I'm a bit of a bibliophile....and i collect books....lots and lots and lots of books.....some of my all time favorite writers are Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and H.P. Lovecraft

Howard is well Known for his Conan stories as well as being a native Texan (BTW FWIW....New Conan, Red Sonja, and for the first time Solomon Kane movies are on their way as I type this)

Burroughs is well Known for Tarzan....but I much Prefer his John Carter and Carson books

So I'm happy to annonce...(in case you didn't know)

Pixar is making the epic Edgar Rice Burroughs Novel a Princess of Mars into a live action Movie slated for release in 2012

Taylor Kitsch as John Carter
Lynn Collins as Dejah Thoris
Willem Dafoe as Tars Tarkas
Thomas Haden Church as Hajus
Samantha Morton as Sola

Now we can see the real story (instead of the blatant Cameron "rip off" version...lol )

Happy Happy Joy Joy.....and if all goes well they inted to also make John Carter Warlord of Mars as well as the Gods of Mars...

I have waited my whole life to see this story brought to the screen, I just hope Disney doesn't screw it up....like every other studio/director that has ever adapted anything to the screen

If anyone will do the story justice, it'll be Pixar. They have the knack.

Thusfar, it seems Disney has been the "silent" owner, since the aquisition...if they are smart, they will continue that trend and let Brad Bird and his team do what they do best.

edit: Lucas was an idiot to sell Pixar.

One of my friends gave me the entire Mars series as a gift for graduating college. I read A Princess of Mars during the summer after school. At first, I felt that it was inferior to a lot of the other sci-fi I've read, particuarly stuff by Philip K. Dick and Ken Macleod. The more I read it, the more I realized how excellent was Burroughs's writing style and story telling talents. I couldn't put it down.

I then began reading The Gods of Mars, but unfortunately, graduate school started and I didn't have much time for reading fiction. I'm sure I'll jump back into the books and finish them.

And Tars Tarkas is the shizzle!

Just keep in Mind these stories were written between 1912 and 1946 though some were not printed until after his death...and were actually finished and or fleshed out by his son John Coleman Burroughs

friend gave you all 11 books...cool friend

i highly suggest that if you enjoy Burroughs that you Try Robert E. Howard...after all he is the Father of the Sword and Sorcery Genre

Traci Lords as Dejah Thoris.

I read all the Barsoom books as a kid, and I don't think I want to have any film adaptation taint what my imagination conjured up.

The book covers were enough.

Wow. I recall the Burroughs' Mars series was one of the first books I read as a kid. Sounds very cool. I hope they maintain the 1930's-vibe of the original books, instead of modernizing it to stupidity. It's also interesting that Pixar is making a live action movie.. I didn't know they did that. I'm also surprised how decent the effects of the B-flick look. I might even watch it some day!

I read all of those Barsoom novels as a kid. I've always thought they would be great for the movies. "A Princess of Mars," "The Gods of Mars," and "Thuvia, Maid of Mars" seem to be the ones that made the biggest impression on me. Any of the eleven books from the series could be made into a good movie.
