As a belgian i find this a bit annoying!
I see it as a big marketing scheme to sell more beer making people believe they are drinking something remotely belgian!

A bit like this horrible place in NY (Pommes Frites Inc./Menu) which has nothing belgian about it!
None of these sauces are remotely Belgian, the chips are horrible but becasue they serve them in a cone and say they are Belgian people queue for ages!
Their specialty is chips with bright orange cheese sauce! Think mac and cheese but with no mac and more chips! Complete blasphemy! You could get shot for that in Belgium!

Don't get your panties in a wad now. Americans are on a beer fusion rampage as of late, breaking style boundaries and forging new ground in malted delights. While I dislike more of these experiments than I like (I'm talking to you Dogfish), some of these concoctions are amazing. I take my hat off to Stone, Dogfish, and the others out there taking chances....for marketing tactics, the love of beer, or otherwise.

Keep complaining and I'll make a Belgian Stout with Amarillo/Cascade/Goldings hops, elderberries, and lemur toenail clippings. I'll also put a picture of some monks on the front for good measure.

Im not "getting my panties in a wad" im just saying that calling a 100% american brewery "New Belgium" is wrong!
Sure in this day and age it will probably make you sell more beer but why not be proud of making good quality American beer?

Haha..wow! From my understanding, the founder was touring overseas and that is what inspired him to brew for a living. Feel free to take the compliment.

Don't tell New York that.

I think that was simply their nod to Belgium since they started brewing beers in the Belgian style. Be proud that your country defined an enormous catalog of beer styles that are arguably the finest ever crafted. Remember, we are Americans...our country is very young...we are a soup of cultures that pillage from all cultures and embrace the old while trying to create the new.

Hopefully I'm not stating the obvious, I just don't see the issue with the name. Then again, this is coming from an American.

Hopefully "New Belgium" wont sue Belgium for the name like Budweiser did!
