So, the olympics are always a time to discover new and interesting things about different cultures, but it is also a time of hearing some downright funny names. Here are two of my favorites
Someone on Israel (I believe in one of the men's rowing teams) had the first name Nimrod!
But by far my favorite name had to be that of a men's indoor volleyball player on Russia.....his first name was Semen!
Any others that stood out? |

Couldn't help but laugh when I heard that, one of those, I really shouldn't but that was dead funny.

Any others that stood out? | I have a customer in Israeal named Nimrod. I also know a Schlomo
Fanny is often a nickname for Francis. One of my best friends and customers from Germany is named Uwe. It's prounounced EW-Vay, but everyone gets it mixed up everyway possible.

PS to the above, Schlomo is actually a really common Israeli name.....but I have NEVER heard anyone named Nimrod prior to this year, haha |

You could try reading the Bible. | I'm not religious and therefore do not read the Bible. Sorry if I offended you |

| | | | Semen is pronounced, believe it or not, sorta like Sim-YON, Russian version of Simon. Don't know why the transliterators insist on keeping that umlauted E as an E cause it's always pronounced as "yo" (also why people pronounced Gorbachev as GorbaCHOFF) |

How about the Thai weightlifter Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon? She apparently took this name because a fortune teller told her it would bring better luck. And so it did - she won the gold in the women's 53 kg class.
Also, the boxer from Kazhakstan whose first name was Jerkebulan might want to change it should he ever turn pro.
