Most sequels fall way short of their predecessor. But some are better or as good as the original. I'd have to pick the Empire Strikes Back as best sequel, just miles ahead of A New Hope.
Your favorite?

(the second being slightly subjective. In both cases they are a different style of film, compared to the predecessor).

Marketed as Mad Max II, in certain places where the first one was not shown.
The "original" or #1 was something I searched for quite a while back in the day and wow, what a let-down it was when I finally saw it.

| | | I'd vote for Empire Strikes Back.
Road Warrior was way better than any of the others.
Nobody is gonna say Predator 2?
