Question Favorite TED Talks?

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife and I are doing an experiment. We are considering giving up our cable TV service, but before we cancel Time Warner, we are giving it a trial run.

We have been checking out lots of stuff from the library and watching shows online, as well as finding other stuff to do.

However, we've always had the bad habit of watching during dinner, so we've been checking out a few of the TED Talks for our mealtime viewing.

As there are over 900 talks available, I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations. A lot of these range from 10 to 50 minutes which is about right for us. We can watch one longer vid or two or three of the shorter ones.

I'd be interested in any other lecture series suggestions.

Talk to each other during dinner, like civilized people.

But good on dumping cable. It's a start.

The one where different people sent in their voices and Eric Whitacher created a virtual choir. It was amazing. Another fascinating one was with Roger Ebert. I had no idea what he was going through. His wife was amazing, and so was he. Incredibly brave of him to do that episode.

We've been talking for 35 years.

We walk for 30-45 minutes morning and evening, during which we talk.

And watching T.V. doesn't preclude talking to one another.
Of course most of those conversations consisted mostly of, "How much are we paying for this?"

But thanks for the "advice."

I'm a TED talk fan boy, love them. I find most of them good, don't have any favorites.

That's not Fairfax Co. Public Schools, is it?

I don't miss living up there! But either way I hope you enjoy your conference.

Thanks.
I just watched a couple of those--She could've done an entire lecture on any one of the examples.
I watched one of them on YouTube and several of the related videos (on design) look interesting.

Here is one that we watched the other night:

And a related thread of mine from a couple of years ago:
War Horse (very cool puppets)

There are so many good ones. I like the marine biologists talking about the state of reefs and fish populations.

It does for me, especially when I'm dining.

But good luck with your experiment.
