Fed up with FedEx

I ordered an amp from Bass Northwest(Washington state, USA). I live in Rhode Island. The box weighs 101.4 lbs(46 kg).

The FIRST time the driver failed to deliver the package today, he/she mistakingly CANCELLED the shipment, saying that I refused the delivery. Luckily I checked the status on a break at work, so I stopped them from sending it back to Washington. The operator told me they would TRY to re-deliver it tomorrow. OK, fine. These things happen.

During dinner, I get a phone call. It's the regional office, telling me that they made TWO more attempts to deliver it. He then had the BALLS to ask me if I'd drive 40 minutes to their facility and pick it up. I almost reached through the phone and killed him.

I've had trouble with deliveries before, but they CALL ME and ask for directions. I told him that, and said that I would NOT come to pick up something that is supposed to be delivered. I got off the phone with the simpleton and immediately called the 800 number.

I explained the events to the operator, who made a note for the driver to CALL ME if (when) he gets lost again.

It will be a cold day in hell before I use FedEx again.

It seems that all delivery services are going to hell lately.

It seems like all customer service to me. I think the problem is that companies are big enough (Taco Bell, FedEx, Tiger Direct) it's hard for them to go out of or get run out of business because soo many people use them no matter what.
[edit] -- it seems that the only time companies are competing and concerned how they are doing business, is when are when they are new.

I ordered a christmas present for my son, shipped FedEx on Dec 5, it turned up the other day (Feb 19) without any explanation! Before you ask, I did report it lost with the retailer, who overnighted a replacement.

On a related issue, I sent my folks a Xmas present on Dec 19 (USPS priority mail - should be 5 business days). It still hadn't shown up Jan 9, so I lodged a enquiry with USPS. The next day I found out that the package had left the US the previous evening. So it took 21 say to get from Washington D.C. to Newark N.J. Must have been a slow Donkey.
