Fedor`s over

Since I couldn`t post in the "Official MMA/UFC thread" I`ll post it here.

Just watched the Fedor/Bigfoot Silva fight (as usual, at Sunday morning with a good coffee) and can`t believe how badly he lost.

I`ve discovered the guy too late (2 years ago) and became a huge fan. It`s hard to accept that at 35 years old, his prime time is gone. In such a competetive and demanding sport like MMA, it`s really hard to stay at the top for so long.

His lost yesterday left me very sad. Now is time for the new guys like Velazquez, Overeem or Carwin.

Overeem and Brock are both right about the same age as Fedor. I just dont think that he has ever adjusted to fighting in a cage. I don't think the fight should have been stopped, Fedor was ready to go for the third round.

I think Fedor should drop to 205 and dominate that division for a while. He is a very small heavyweight at 230, it would be an easy cut for him.

I think one of the main problems for Fedor is he's fought, what, once a year? Maybe not even that much. That ring rust has got to affect him, M-1 screwed themselves over. I'll be happy if they lose out on the deal because I think they've messed up this whole thing from the beginning, but Fedor still does have enough skill to fight in the upper tiers of UFC and hopefully we'll get to see that rather than him just retiring.

Overeem isn't new, he's been beating peoples faces in for a long time now :-). He's a nice guy too in person, if not exceedingly confident...though with good reason IMO.

That said, I was a bit surprised watching the fight last night too. Silva looked really, really good though. Sure, fighters like Fedor don't come along all that often, but Silva fought exactly the fight he needed to. I don't think last night changes anything about Fedors reputation. If anything, it just makes Silva's better. I'm really looking forward to seeing Barnett.

Arlovski on the other hand needs to hang it up.

I believe it`s the first time he really got dominated (a bad move made him lose to Werdum).

I believe that skilled guys above 230 pounds are a real problem for him. I think the first where that happened was against Rogers. An unskilled fighter like him gave Fedor serious trouble during the first round. A good fist fixed the problem in the 2nd.

In this fight he got absolutely dominated by Silva and that`s what impressed me most. He never had control of the fight and didn`t represent a big threat to this opponent.

I think fedor needs to do some soul-searching and either hang it up or make some changes to adjust to the changes that have come about both with the move to Strikeforce and in MMA in general. I think Crocop came to this point and decided to make the changes.
