"Feeling" jokes before you actually say them?

Sign in to disble this ad
Today we in class having discussion about... something - I was spaced so didn't really know what - anyway the teacher asks my friend why he's messing with his iPhone and then something weird happened: Within' milliseconds of Mrs. Teacher asking the question I came up with some joke in my head, laughed at it, and then "felt the joke" come up through my gut and try to escape my mouth. I tried to stop myself before I said it because even though I laughed at it I knew it was pretty stupid, really stupid, and that I'd be embarrassing myself in front of the entire class (which was dead silent) but I couldn't. It just flew out! Luckily everyone laughed including the teacher but it was weird how I "felt" the entire process and even more so that I couldn't stop myself from doing something that I consciously knew I was about to do.

So yea... Thoughts?

Unless you have the mental age of a 17 year old and were there to experience it, it won't make any sense and you'll probably think I'm about as mentally capable as a monkey riding the short bus .

I have the body and mind of a recently-turned-20 year old - but I think that you could probably make the argument that I'm less mature than my years...

Try me.

As a monkey that rode the short bus, I approve this thread.

I tend to mumble jokes under my breath so the people around me catch them. The people close to me think I'm hilarious, but nobody else does.

Hey now...

In relevance to the discussion, I empathize and understand where you are coming from regarding the incident in question. Give me an epoch of time to ponder it, and I shall return full of wisdom and comprehension.

How's that for my 17-year-old mental age?

Seriously, I do understand this. There are times when I look around, waiting for other people to capitalize on the joke before I take it, like looking at another driver before proceeding at a 4 way stop. It is positively palpable at times, but those times can be rare.

You'd better post it quick before it gets built up so much that it'll be a disappointment no matter how funny it originally may have been.

Don't we need a picture of said joke or something? I'm not convinced it exists.

OP is probably home schooled, so the 'whole class' laughing at his non-existent joke was probably just himself.
