I hadn't seen any FIA WRC coverage on Speed in about 5 or 6 years. During that time they always seemed to cover Dakar,...but no WRC. I may have been missing the events though. Actually it took me a year or so to learn of Colin McRae's death in 2007.
I really like rally but it is a hard motorsport to cover unlike Nascar,...which is all Speed is anymore. It's the difference between a X-Country race and a Track meet. Aside from a few banners here and there,...the cars are the only real advertisement space and a spectator may only see each car only a few times during an event.
You can't make a live televised event out of it and the hour long coverages really sort of left me wanting more. They were appreciated and fun to watch,...but often times key events such as grooved quick tempo runs, wrecks and engine failures were only caught by in car cameras. Something I'd rather have seen from a helicopter view.
Although I've never been to one, I keep an eye on the
SCCA website and the Subaru forums for SCCA and other sanctioned rallies in my area. There is the Oregon Trail Rally Near Beaverton (Hillsboro) Oregon and also one down near Pullman Washington (Pomeroy; not an SCCA event).
Slightly OT,...I'm judging by your username that you are a Soobie fan. Check out the
Ultimate Subaru Message Board. I linked to the "Subaru Motorsports" Subforum. There are a lot of Pac NWerners on there but a little bit of an East Coast Crowd as well. I expect to spend a lot of time there when I pick up my Loyale Wagon in a month or so.
