I'm REALLY disappointed in the World Cup Holder Italy's performance.

USA 2, Spain 0. Final score. Holy Cow, Batman.

The last 10 minutes or so were as intense as anything I have ever seen on a soccer field.

Unreal effort from the US squad today, and deserving victors. DeMerit, Onyewu, Howard in goal, were just commited. Landon Donovan looked like he'd been cloned, he was all over the field.

2nd biggest win in US footie....(1950)

Now where's that Spanish dude that hates America? I'd like to hear his take on this one.

Oh and Tim Howard is the Juggernaut. I'm convinced.

Anyone know the criteria on who plays in this cup? It seems like a meaningless tournament to me. No one cares about it.

Where's Germany, Argentina, France?

It's a small tournament on purpose. The schedule is too crowded to make it any bigger. It's the winner of the 6 international confederations, the current World Cup Holder (Italy) and the host country (South Africa).

It's purpose is for a dry run for the hosts of the coming World Cup; to see that stadiums, ticket distribution, transportation, etc. get a workout before the big event.

It's meaning will vary depending on the team. The US has never won a World Final for example, and now has an opportunity. Italy and Spain will be disappointed, but have their eyes on a bigger prize.

There is only one 'world final'. The dry run idea seems to be a good thing though.

Well, it's the final of a tournament that's bigger than regional, and the entire world is eligible to be in it. How about lower case 'world final'?
