FIFA strikes again.

Ok, so there may be some political aspect to this but I'm asking the mods to give it a chance...

England play Spain in a friendly football match this weekend. It happens to coincide with Remembrance Day (11/11) when the vast majority of the country wear a red poppy, bought anywhere and everywhere, as a symbol of respect and gratitude to the war dead. The funds raised generally go to help out any of the old boys (and their families) still left alive (as far as I am aware). I am sure that monies raised also go to whatever would class as a 'worthy cause'.

Now FIFA, in their infinite wisdom, have decided that this is a political gesture and that it contravenes their rules about anything that contradicts the 'neutrality' of football. They are probably the most corrupt sporting governing body in history and are dripping with allegations of corruption and scandal - and have been for years.

There is outrage over here, and many see it as a petty tit-for-tat dig at a country who dared to call BS on their operation during the voting for the hosting of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup tournaments.

Most folk are saying 'stuff them' and wear the poppies anyway, even if it incurs a fine or even a ban from any future tournaments. This is a big deal, and I hope our footballers and the English FA have the strength to wear them anyway and not capitulate.

Thoughts?

The corruption in football is one of the reasons I've all but given up on watching it.

International level is just tainted through and through by FIFA who have proven time and time again that they care not for the fair game, thier handling (or lack there of) of the many dodgy ref decisions over the years have done nothing but kill the game IMO.

I saw this in the news, but I thought there had been a turnaround in it, that they had given in and accepted the poppy to be worn?

Last year there was a big kick off up here (not sure if it made the news down south) about Celtic fans and the wearing of the poppy:

(Rangers and Celtic are the other reason I've given up on watching football, just a sickening bunch of a-holes!)

I hope the English FA have the balls to go through with it, if FIFA kick off, hopefully other people would join a boycott and there could be something done to oust the current head-honchos.

Side note - Didn't the FIFA president decide to keep his job even after basically being voted out last year?
