Working at toys r us so I can get the funds to take my ASE's to start my career. Going to be doing overnight stock there.

Speaking of G.A.S. I made my girlfriend agree that once I got a job I could buy myself a cheap gift(thinking an SX fretless)

Really? Maybe where YOU live it was easy. But I spent 10 months applying at virtually every place in this POS town 2-3 times. I had 3 other interviews apart from this one and still didn't get a job. The only real reason why I even have this job is because I have my girlfriend who works there as a reference.

Good for you man. I've been unemployed for exactly a year now, and it hurts. Not even the places which are seasonal hires are doing much hiring. I've applied at nine different stores this week, still no dice.

Mr. Hoy, you ought be ashamed.

I'm sure up in Soup Can, Washington, the job market is wide open, but other places (such as here in Honolulu), unemployment is so high, wages so low, cost of living so high, that when a job opens up, literally thousands of people apply, be it menial toilet scrubbing to high end office work.

Not everybody has the luxury of work, whether they want to or not.

Yea its rough out there. My job has been in a pay freeze for the last 20 months. I started part time, went to full time, then got a key to the store and still no raise. We also just decided that there wont be any seasonal hires this year. Congrats to you for getting a job. Its not easy these days. Too many people, too much greed in companies. Lets be honest here, most companies are using the economy as an excuse to stop raises. My company has been putting out numbers for the last half a year that beat last years figures..... yet they still cry economy and tell me that they dont have money for raises.

It's getting so bad here in Honolulu, we've gone to a four day school week. Governor won't pay for teachers on Fridays.

I need to get a night time job. I'm so broke right now I don't even have cash for gas (the kind that goes in your car).

Disabled vet. No re-entry for me no matter how much I want it. Not even in the ready reserve.

My brother lives in Maine. He travels to New Hampshire to work to work as a retail parts manager. The guy gets sick and has to spend 3 days in the hospital. Business owner threatened to fire him because he was "unreliable" despite having never missed a day otherwise.

My brother gets in early every day to open the business and is probably most reliable worker I've ever met. He puts up with this crap because of the bad job market.

Horrible stuff.

I'm going to try to help him move but i'm not sure things are much better in other places.

Is any local economy turning?

The plus side of that is that North Shore season has already started firing, and there are still South swells rolling through town hitting Publics, Suicides, and Ala Moana too. So to have Fridays off to surf, is not ALL that bad.

Actually, the reported unemployment rate for HI 7.2 %
is lower than that for WA 9.3% (see table 2).

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/laus.nr0.htm

We here in RI are big winners 13% right after MI. 15.6%.

Edit: Of course, they NEVER get stuff wrong.
