It all makes sense now: you told someone you wanted Santa to bring you a Kindle and they laughed at you.

Go to the Amazon website, look in the Kindle store under a genre you are interested in, and have it listing the books in "low to high" price order. Plenty of free and really cheap (.99) books.

Project Gutenberg, although they don't have many books in .mobi (the proprietary format the Kindle supports).

Also, amazon has a fair number of free books. If you like science fiction, Baen has their free library thru www.webscriptions.net, and the contents of the various free books on CDs they have put out with some of their hardback books is available through www.baencd.thefifthimperium.com Both www.mobilereader.com and www.fictionwise.com have a mixture of free and pay books. All of these have most of their eBooks available in mobi

I got a kindle as well

it's only been a few hours, and I already love it. I read most of my books on my PC anyway, so this was pretty much the perfect gift.

We got my 10 year old daughter a Kindle Touch for Christmas. She reads a LOT, so she is loving it.

And now that has got me seriously considering getting a Kindle Fire for myself.

People, don't get color backlit screens if what you want to do is read books. E-ink is a blessing and you'll be missing on it

I must admit that I love the e-ink thingy. It looks just as good as actual book pages.

In my case, it's meant I can finally access a lot of VERY difficult to find books, or at least not have to wait a small ice age to get hold of paper copies over the Net.
