finding a passion

Sign in to disble this ad
hey ya'll
so. i've been looking into myself lately and realized, that I don't love anything with a passion. hobbies, i mean.
these are the things i do:
karate- I enjoy it, but i'm not wild about it. Its fun and all but i realized how ineffective it is, and how i'm just ok at it
art- again, i enjoy it, but i don't LOOOOOVE it like a fat boy loves cake. i'm not that great either.
bass- out of these things, i enjoy this the most. but still, I know people to whom music is their entire lives. they absolutely love playing it. I love it like a fat kid likes cake, but it's not my life. i'm also not good at it
parkour- i love the idea of this. unfortunately, it's winter time, and besides, i live in a small town that has virtually no parkour-able places. i'm also a complete beginner.

I want to find something i absolutley love, that i can practice every day and never get bored of, that can become my life. I decided this after watching the olympics... these guys have trained so hard to get good at their passion they love, and i want to be like that.

advice? thanks again. i posted another thread similar to this... but having issues again haha

I've never heard the word "Parkour" before, though I've heard of the act, and now, being re-exposed to it, I've got myself a new potential passion.

I thinks some people are passionate about things and others are not. If you're not, you're not. That doesn't mean you can't find stuff to get into, it just means you probably won't win any awards.

dont put it in a box of something that you would do by yourself or that would be considered a hobby. You could find passion in helping other people in some way. Teaching kids to use computer, feeding/helping homeless, helping people get out of debt..

If i actually had money, I could get pretty passionate about giving it away and just watching people light up when they had lost hope years ago... Hopefully i will one day get to that point...

I'm passionate about drumming, but I dont do it nearly as much as I would like, and I can't stand sitting in a room by myself playing and jerking my own chain. I truly love getting with 3-4 guys and nailing songs out right and left even if i'm playing 4 on the floor in every song. I also play at church and really enjoy playiing when i can really lock the band in, even if they are sub-par musicians...

It could be that bass IS your passion, but the way your are trying to fulfill that desire is wrong. Maybe you could give cheap lessons to kids? Maybe you need a group of guys that get together in a garage, throw some back, and jam out to smoke on the water for 6 hours...ya never know!

I sometimes dream of winning the lottery and giving people money who need and deserve being treated good.

You need to get out and experience more things. The more things you experience, the more chances you'll find that thing you love to do more than anything else. Also remember that passions can change, too. Even if you find something you love to do, it can change over time to something else or inspire you to branch out and have multiple passions.

Ok, so you like art, etc... Have you tried working with related hobbies? Model building or model railroading are related to art. Model building requires attention to detail and aesthetics. Model railroading requires aesthetics, creativity, and model building skill to create dioramas for the trains to be featured in.

You like bass and you like art... are you any good at woodshop? Have you considered learning to be a luthier?

These are just a few examples of how things you like can tie into others. Try sitting down and thinking about what things you can do with what you already like. Make a list, and try them out one by one.

Have you ever performed music in front of an audience? If so, how did you feel before and after the concert?

After my first performance, when I was like 10 years old, I was completely sold, I found something that I want to do for the rest of my life. And now, 20 years later, nothing has changed...

To be passionate about something, there has to be something at stake. A fear of losing or a chance to win, or any similar parabel.

When you play music, or do karate, what drives you to do those things? If itīs just for having something to do on your spare time and you donīt care if your good or bad at ir, you might never feel the passion.

If you practice something, like a song or something, that you canīt do in the first place but after some practicing you nail it perfectly, whatīs your feeling? Is it "Yes, I made it!" or "Ok, I learned it, now so what?"

Set up goal for yourself, what do you want to achieve? I canīt do anything without goals, not even the dishes because I canīt do the dishes beacause I have to. I have to think "if I do the dishes, the kitchen is going to look nice and clean and I can go back to the computer and continue surfing on talk bass with a feeling of fulfillment".
