Finger troubles

So, a few months ago I was told to do a job at my job that isn't my job. The job that I was told to do (that isn't my job) required using an air powered nail gun. Easy enough, but I did manage to shoot a small nail through my left index finger. It was very clean and passed right through and bled a bit.
I went to a doctor who inspected it, popped me with a tetnis needle and pushed me along.
The wound healed but I still have a great deal of pain in the finger. So much so, that playing bass is not possible. It is simply too painful.
I can still bend my finger, but only to a point before the pain comes at me like a rookie linebacker-fast and furious.
Now, I'm not askign for medical advice, or even legal advice (remember, it wasn't my job and I was told to do it anyway).
But has anyone else ever shot a nail through a finger and had this same prolonged pain? Anyone know about this kind of stuff?
I guess I keep expecting it to get better but it never does. And with work and graduate school occupying so much of my time, I've just grouped it with things that I'll eventually get around to.
But I think I might have to update the priority on this one.

I have a friend who did the same exact thing to his pinky finger on his left hand, and he still experiences slight pain when he makes a fist but he did say that it got a lot better after it actually healed. Did you ever get Xrays of your hand after the accident?

The middle of your finger will take a much longer time to heal than the dermal part. You should however have your finger examined if you don't know what, inside your finger, was wounded by the nail.

+1. This will take time to heal.
