...kinda like firing your pusher. Comcast got booted for AT&T U-Verse. We'll see. A few more channels (that means it'll take me longer to find out: "there's nothing on!") for slightly less dough.
You always get nicked in the end with cable providers anyhow.
If I fire enough of them, I'll have enough infrastructure wired in my home to make the next switch as simple as a phone call.
Unless I fire Verizon.
I'm not bitter, and I got no big bitch story, the wife just said: "They get the boot!"
[/booted]

Then they proceeded to tell me it would be another week (next Thursday) before they could be out here. I called and canceled.
Today a customer service manager was at my front door. Initially told him to get off my lawn (politely). They are persistent buggers. After thinking on it a minute, I called him back and asked what he could do for me to keep my business. $35 for phone and internet free install @ a very specific time. It had been around $170 for all three but the TV I just don't need.
I'd been looking into cell phones the going rate seems to be around $50 for no contract type service and still no internet. I Weighed my options and after taxes Comcast beats out the rest. Verizon doesn't even offer phone service in the area so, I can't get the free netbook. Qwest it too expensive for just phone and internet. I wish I could go with someone else, but Comcast is just so competitive in these parts.
The CSM was very apologetic and will be the one doing the install, new equipment as well. |

Unless you work at one of those Check Cashing Joints and the comcast Guy Shows up, in his truck and puts the gun in your face. Now thats not reasonable. http://www.katu.com/news/50256492.html

They aren't used to competition in the boston area, normally it's comcast or nothing. I've had an RCN guy hounding me once a month offering cheaper service (but their service sucks). I ended up going with FIOS for $50/month because comcast wanted to charge me $70/month for internet alone. We don't need phone and rarely watch tv so it wouldn't be worth it to get all three but they really rake you over the coals. I've had them in so many apartments before with bad experience that I think even if FIOS was more expensive I would have gone with them. |

| | | That's what I hear from many Comcast customers here in New Jersey. I had the Verizon FiOS service installed last Summer and am very happy with it. TV / Internet / Phone services are all great.
DISCLAIMER: No, I don't work for Verizon and don't know anyone that does. I'm just a satisfied customer. Quote:

If I were to move 6 miles down the road, however, then I could get Wide Open West (WOW Cable) and they have a better channel line up for less money. Sucks to live north of Columbus (well, not really. This is the rich side of town.)

[/booted] | I feel like doing the same thing, just haven't given them the boot yet.
For ages the only cable company in town was Cox Communications. Now Verizon FIOS is in town with their $99.00 (and up) packages, giving away mini laptops.
Cox, around here is actually a decent company with great customer service, but they were lacking in HD channels until FIOS came around. Now, they hustling adding channels and features left and right. They are also ramping up the internet speeds, supposedly. I should try out FIOS just for the introductory pricing (two years, I believe) and the free laptop.
Third option.
Eventually boot them both and just buy an internet package, HD TV antenna, and a cel phone. |

Depends on the cell plan I guess. With Cox, telephone, internet, and HD-TV with HBO and Cinemax I am paying 169.00 a month. Cox is being very competitive right now, though. I just past a contract time with a $99.00 package with them. Before that it was in the $180.00's without Cinemax.
I hope Verizon's actual price is not that high after the $99.00 deal is done. |

And now in my hometown as well. My hometown used to have a cable internet service provided by the Bureau of Electricity (we've had public power for decades), which was really good. Fast, reliable, always warned us when it was going to be down for maintenance, and cheap.
So Comcast came in and through predatory pricing, drove the BoE service out of business (it wasn't a standard thing, you still had to buy in). Comcast then took over all the cable internet in the town, and the reliability we'd been so used to went out the window. And, of course, prices went up after a very brief period during which they were cheaper. On a positive note, Comcast is so incompetent that they accidentally gave us extended cable during the chaotic switchover. So technically we're now stealing cable from them.
