Thumbs up Firefox 3.5

Sign in to disble this ad
Just released today. I've been running the betas and release candidates for some time now and am quite pleased with it.

Faster javascript/page rendering, private browsing (aka porn mode), cool new video features and more...
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox...refox-3.5.html

For those of you who have Firefox and want to upgrade, just select "Check for Updates" in the Help menu.

And of course, you can always download it at http://www.mozilla.com/

Seems like the people at Mozilla are threatened by Safari 4

I'll be downloading Firefox 3.5 later today.

Yep... I've found it very useful on Safari 4.

Using 3.5 now and it is a "little" faster but I think that has to do more with how fast your machine is more than what browser you're using.

Just downloaded and tinkered for a few. Seems a tad snappier to me, but my 3.0 (I think) was already fast as hell 'cause of the SSD. Interface looks almost identical.

Mostly with how fast your connection is, I'd say. My ISP has a range of "up to" 2MB - "up to" 100 MB/sec. I only have the slowest and cheapest connection, but FF 3.5 seems to work fine, and I like the added native support for Ogg compression. Proprietary formats are becoming obsolete.

A bit faster. I'll have to check it out for a bit. I lost my old theme though.

Oh well, time for a change I guess.

I'm an old Opera fan since v2.12, and have seen these two leapfrogging each other in recent years. Currently FF has the edge with me, if mainly because of the excellent Adblock Plus plugin, which Opera has no real match for. I still run the Opera 10 beta version to check it out, and it's very promising. The memory leaks that caused v9 to crash after weeks online appear to have been fixed.

FF has now adopted the "+" button for opening a new tab, but not yet the "Duplicate tab" command, which I often find convenient in Opera.

I'm actually DL'ing Firefox 2 right now because I have gotten so sick of the slow page loads with FF3. I see a couple of posts above saying "a little faster", but is that like saying the tortoise is "a little faster" than its old crippled fat cousin tortoise? Or are you guys actually getting fast page loads with 3.5?

I never used to have this problem with FF2, on the same computer, visiting the same sites, through (almost) the same DSL speed.

Javascript is indeed brutally fast now. As for the rest, it's faster than my brain one way or another

Well I just installed it and I hate it. It takes 10 times longer to open. I literally have to wait nearly 90 seconds from the time I double click the icon, until the program is open and responsive. It's awful.

I'm getting great speeds! In all reality, I got great speeds with previous versions as well, as I had an SSD. My upgrade to 3.5 seems slightly faster than my previous version (3.1, me thinks.)

I'm getting much improved page speeds, especially on my Linux side.
